quote:

A New York jury just awarded $2 MILLION to a young woman who underwent a double mastectomy at 16 and later detransitioned.

The jury found her psychologist and surgeon liable for malpractice.

Her case alleged that serious mental-health issues, including depression, body dysmorphia, anorexia and autism-spectrum traits, were not adequately addressed before an irreversible procedure was performed on a minor.

Now watch what happens when someone like her speaks publicly.

For years we were told regret was exceedingly rare. We were told these procedures were necessary care. We were told questioning the process itself was dangerous.

But when a detransitioner stands up and says, “This happened to me,” suddenly she becomes the problem.

That is the epistemic tell.

When evidence supports the narrative, it is celebrated.

When evidence contradicts the narrative, the person carrying the evidence gets attacked.

A jury heard the testimony. A jury examined the evidence. A jury found malpractice. And a jury put the damages at $2 million.

You don’t protect vulnerable young people by demanding silence from the ones who came back and said, “I wish someone had slowed this down.”

You protect them by listening.

Good. Maybe some of these hack physicians will stop transitioning children for fear of legal action, or better, the med-mal insurance carriers will stop covering their practices.

Could a man get one of these checks?

I wouldn’t get surgery or take the drugs but I might grow my hair longer if it’ll make the jury more sympathetic

She was 16. Someone responsible would have to sign the permit. They should be sued; not the doctors.

Where were the parents? I’m glad the girl learned reality but 2 million in malpractice will just be picked up by other members of the liability insurance company it will be claimed on.

I was thinking the same.

Being told that they would go to prison and their children would be taken away from them if they put up a fight?

True, but... You also have liberal mothers wanting a child of the opposite sex and since Hollywood made this the trendy new thing during Covid, pushed their child into this madness.

Two things:

1. All of these doctors performing these surgeries and such should be jailed and have their licenses permanently revoked.

2. What are autism-spectrum traits? Does she have it or does she not have it? I believe people these days claim to have autism so they can use it as an excuse or a badge of hobor

Eventually, it will cost them too much to practice. That's a good thing. Josef Mengale disciples should not be practicing medicine.

$2M is nothing between the two of them. Insurance covers that easily.

Should be $100M

This is the way.

Once the docs and hospitals who engage in this barbaric practice start to feel the pinch, they will stop doing it and this all goes away.

I disagree.

These doctors need to be hammered. Harming kids for profit cannot be tolerated.

Sadly, this will be the only way this ends. You have to scare doctors and their insurers into not wanting to take the risk.

Whether a parent was a bad parent doesn't have anything to do with whether the physicians in the case were guilty of malpractice by medical neglect.

Those are two different things.

No court is going to hold a parent responsible for following the advice of a physician. So what exactly should they be sued for?

And, how would suing the parents provide restitution to the victim?
