good.
you should be sued if you promise x amount of money and then reneg on it.
And the businesses should be able to sue the player when he doesn’t hold up his end of the deal.

This is why NIL was never meant to be a pay-for-play model.
This was always going to be what it turned into. The people who were pushing NIL were always stupid or just don't like college sports.

This kid played for 3 high schools, flipped from Miami to UF, signed with ASU then transferred to Georgia. He’s clearly getting pimped out for money, and this is just another attempt to get paid.
The whole family is trash. Have a cousin that knows them pretty well

This is going to be a shite show on multiple levels. Everyone knows what’s going on, but here we have an active FBS player suing an active head coach (among others) for actions which would violate not only NCAA rules, but actual state law. Assuming the lawsuit moves forward, they will be able to subpoena documents and force testimony under oath - including documents/testimony from people who would normally be in a position to tell the NCAA to kick rocks.

They should.
But most of the time they just stop paying them.

Brian Kelly looks like a genius right about now.

Is this a recruiting violation?

Former University of Florida football recruit Jaden Rashada is suing coach Billy Napier, along with a big-time Gator booster and others, claiming they defrauded him out of millions of dollars by backing out of a promised $13.85 million agreement after the quarterback had turned down offers tied to other programs.

You be the judge:
quote:
It all came to a head on Dec. 21, the first day of the early signing period, where Napier allegedly personally vouched to Rashada that Florida alumni "were good on their promise that Jaden would receive $1 million if he signed with UF on National Signing Day" and that Hathcock would make the payment. Harlen Rashada later texted Zager, "Coach Napier said [Hathcock's] on a plane and that he will wire 1 Mil. He wants the paper work and I'm sending it if you are good." It claims that Castro-Walker threatened Rashada that if he did not sign, Napier might pull his scholarship offer.

Important to note:
Florida has amended their NIL law and no longer prohibits Schools from Being directly involved in Students landing NIL deals.
The school can now direct a booster organization to get NIL deals for players (money just cannot come directly from the school itself)
I cannot find specific language or even mention if the amendment chances the part where NIL cannot tie a kid to any specific school.
This law did not go into effect until AFTER the Jaden Rashada incident.
Again, a lawyer would have to answer on how that shakes out legally.

If they violated a signed contract then they should be sued.
However, when are we going to see schools/collectives start suing players? There is plenty of talk and stories out there that players are violating these agreements on a daily basis, but it is considered bad PR to sue them.
I'm ready for that day to come.

quote:never understood the Napier hype, it’s one thing to dominate the sunbelt but the power 5 especially the SEC is just a different animal when it comes to coaching. Also besides Kirby most of Saban assistants have failed coaching in the SEC.

The universities are going to make a rule just to protect the coaches and schools. “No school employee can discuss financial payments with recruits or players”. If a booster wants to sign an agreement that they’ll make a payment when a player signs, that’s fine.

Good. More lawsuits means tightening the reigns on all of this.

Players, coaches, schools all need to have contracts for this stuff. It’s insane the way it is. These are all employees but with no requirements on either party. Should have just started with salaries, salary caps, performance incentives instead of this NIL nonsense. No one with a brain ever believed this was only going to be so they could get paid for jersey sales etc.

Want to know what is wrong with college football? The title of this article says it all. UF, Coach Napier, Rashida and his family all lose here as well as college football. Rashida and his family should be ashamed and embarrassed. But you can rest assured that this “situation” is not the only one.

fricking Napier and Florida
Love that they’re going to have 5 straight losing seasons with that schedule they have the next couple years. Florida fans are the most obnoxious I’ve ever dealt with personally. Love watching them squirm

Sources told On3 that Georgia head coach Kirby Smart was aware of the lawsuit being filed and signed off on it.
This is the most interesting part to me. I wonder if Kirby is trying to bury the pay for play model faster.
