Are y’all die hard WBB fans watching because you enjoy basketball and think it’s good basketball being played or because LSU’s women’s program has been successful in the past and more so recently?

I will watch some LSU womens bball especially the big games or with a player like Caitlin Clark but that’s about it. Watching womens bball is like watching paint dry. Sorry.

I feel like I could support/watch just about anything LSU, especially if it's for a championship.

I watched half of the WBB Championship game last year and that was enough WBB for the rest of my life.

I'm hoping now that Angel and Caitlin are gone people wll stop pretending WBB is a good product. I'm sorry but even with tGOAT playing, WBB is an awful product. I'm not going to pretend it's not just because it's LSU or Caitlin Clark playing.

I like watching college women's basketball, mainly LSU, because I'm for anything purple & gold. I find it entertaining. But I have no interest at all in the WNBA, nor will I tune in to games simply because some of the LSU players like Angel Reese has moved on to play in that league.

99% of them don't give a shite about WBB and are only watching because the team is good. If the program falls off after KM retires it will fall off into irrelevancy just like when Fargas was HC.

In general LSU fans don't really care about basketball (MBB or WBB) unless the teams are good.

Ya'll

It's fun. They win. My wife and daughter follow as well. We go to a handfull of games a year. But we also go to Gymnastics and Softball. Also fun... And they win. I have season tickets to Gymnastics and Football. Hell, I'd love to catch some beach volleyball.

Are sports entertaining? Will always be a “it depends” answer. I love college football but can’t sit through Miss State beating Vanderbilt 16-13. International soccer can be the most exciting thing ever or the most agonizingly boring experience.

Women’s basketball has always been and likely will always be a little clunky compared to the men’s game. I mean, watching UConn men is like watching NBA. BUT, had you watched our regular season game vs South Carolina with ESPN game day broadcast there, packed house, loud fans and great game I think you would have enjoyed it. I certainly get a kick out of watching Flau’jae drive the lane.

But, to answer your question, yes I cheer for the “LSU” on the jersey. I would root for the LSU chess team if that was televised.

I would watch because LSU, combined with the fact that basketball (even women's BB) is a reasonably exciting sport that is structured well for viewing as a fan.

When I say that, I'm thinking of other 'sports'... LSU had a tremendous run in Track and Field, particularly on the women's side. But I don't think I could handle sitting and watching an entire meet, just to catch the occasional sprints. Same thing for gymnastics, they are skilled to be sure, but there's multiple things going on at the same time; and you aren't sure which will be the key thing to watch.
In basketball, you can keep score and watch the clock, and you know how it's going and when your team is in good shape. Hockey and Lacross are similar, as is Water Polo and such. Soccer is weird, in that there's apparently penalty or stoppage time, so you don't even know how long it will go.

As a matter of interest or watching- I used to like basketball a lot more in the past. I loved the NBA back in the 80's, but now it's rare for me to watch even a single game. For college it's better, but I still don't watch everything like I used to. I also once cared about the Women's game (again, 80's), but now it's simply a matter of "LSU". I don't think I've watched an entire game's worth in total- let alone single actual games- since Mulkey came here.

I think a lot is that I don't like the 3 pt shot and what it's done to basketball. I used to enjoy the various strategies when every shot counted the same, when you could have a 7 ft center and it made a difference; how pushing tempo could overcome that, how motion and cuts would effect things, etc. Now, it's all about who can shoot open 25 ft jumpers the best.

edit: I'm a diehard LSU fan, but not a diehard WBB fan. I'm not going to seek out a random WBB game to watch.

I'm also not going to seek out a random college baseball game, but generally watch a lot of LSU games, and put in my share of time at the Box.

I think this is the general consensus of most fans.

I watched the regular season LSU-USC game and watched the LSU-Iowa game, primarily for the drama. I did watch a little of the USC-Iowa game, but only because I have a daughter at USC.

These are the elite teams, but it's still not a good product. With the rare exception of a few players (Clark, and a couple from SC), there's just not much athleticism on display. The game is played entirely on the floor, there's no leaping ability to speak of by anyone.

Not trying to bash here, I've got two daughters and support women's sports.

But the product on the floor just isn't compelling enough to grab my interest, without some other reason to draw me in.

Then you must really get excited watching the men play. That sure is soul lifting.

Neither.

Will be glad when the WBB drama is done.

Where did I say I do? LSU men's BB has nothing to do with the quality of the woman's game. WCBB is not a quality product, so I don't enjoy watching it.

That’s what makes WBB more interesting than men’s to me. It’s a more pure form of ACTUAL basketball. The men’s game is nothing more than dunks and shooting 3’s now, with little defense. The athleticism is at an all time high, but the fundamentals of the game are missing. The women’s game has to depend on their fundamentals.

I get why people who enjoy the flashiness of dunks prefer the men’s game, but it’s just a not a pure form of basketball. I coached high school boys and girls and preferred coaching girls way more than boys because they actually cared about learning the game, playing as a team, and developing fundamentals.

Truer words have rarely been spoken here.

I watched more LSU WBB the last few years than I ever have before though I did follow the result previously. It is also easier to watch the games now.

People who go in thinking it will look like the men's game will be disappointed but if you can set that aside you can actually enjoy the games. Otherwise, it will be very frustrating. It is a below-the-rim game and the players are not the same caliber athletes as the men. But they are competitive and I enjoy watching the LSU games. I rarely watch any other WBB games, though. But the same is true for MBB and baseball now (that was not true in my youth).

I occasionally go to the women’s games and watch on tv a bit more. If I only supported quality LSU sports I would have missed many years of men’s football and basketball. But I’ve kept my season tickets through thick and thin.

I support LSU through good and bad.

Agreed brother. I enjoy basketball so I can enjoy high-level WBB, especially more so recently. It's true they aren't as athletic, but skills wise with the dribbling, finishing, and jump shooting it can be super enjoyable to watch. I think that if you can't enjoy watch elite players like Caitlin Clark you just don't enjoy basketball.

However.. I'd be lying if I said a lot of it wasn't frustrating to watch.. the less skilled players especially.
