He can be a jackass, but he turned LSU into a consistent winner right away and he did have one of LSU's best regular seasons of all time and won the SEC with a 15-2 record. So it wasn't like he didn't accomplish anything. Hell, he managed to get McNeese to the 2nd round of the tourney. No, he's not Coach K or something like that, but LSU ain't Duke either. LSU fans were just happy to have a competitive winner that brought us to the dance each year.

Love him standing up for his players verses throwing them under the bus. In this day and age that approach will do more good than harm.

Kelvin Sampson still hasn’t won a title and he’s been elite for 25 years. College basketball is alot different than football. What you have to do is get into the tourney every year then you can make a run. Elite HOFers like Roy Williams took 17-18 years to win won, Jim Boeheim took 27 years to win his. It’s just a different scenario than any other sport, the Coach Ks, Rick Ps Jay Wright’s and Jim Calhoun’s are extremely rare.

The player in question is a pre season candidate for POY so it’s a legit question but at the same time good shooters can go into a slump. Some are short and some are longer. But he is still contributing in other ways. That’s all he had to say. Remember Sears for AL getting benched last year. He was their best player. So nothing burger and he should have treated it that way but he chose this. His call. Now if a player had a bad shooting game at LSU it’s absolutely coaching. LOL
