Will feel the loss of Ryan
Could have used him especially if Milam goes pro

There are some real misses in evaluation there. We replaced those dudes with York, Dardar, Callaway. Not a great year for Jay and his staff.

This is dumb. The staff did not want any of those guys to leave. If Stanfield had decided to leave, Larson would have stayed. If a few more of those guys stayed, we would not have had the problem of being so late into the portal, and probably not picked up some of the players we did.

My understanding is that there was some desire for assurances about playing time. If you ask for assurances about playing time, a coach will either tell you no or lie to you. You may play, and it looks like they were honest, but that probably indicates you actually won the job.

We would feel the loss of Milam more if Ryan were still here.

Ryan is fielding .930 at shortstop for NC State. He has 6 more errors in about 40 fewer chances.

Could you imagine him as the shortstop on this team?

Larson would've certainly gotten opportunity on this team, but I still don't think he would solidify himself as an everyday starter in the OF.

Larson is exactly what Jay told him he is - not an OF. He has found that out going to Texas and they benched him there from that too.

Texas tried him out there early on in the season then kept replacing him as games went on with someone who could field in the OF. For the last several weeks he's been playing 1B or DHing. He is not an every day starter, only has 35 SEC plate appearances compared to about double that for starters on Texas' team.

He can hit, but has literally 0 XBH in SEC play thus far. I dont really consider him much if any of a loss.

The guys that seem to hurt are Ryan, Kucherak and Roellig. Costello fell off a cliff in Big 10 play after a hot start which is a bit concerning becaus eBig Ten play isnt exactly difficult

Neal obviously has eye popping numbers now, but sucked last year and is an absolute gigantic douche-nugget that cant catch either (seems he's playing a lot of RF now too, not catching).

There are some advanced stats out there for this i know, but i do wonder if the better offense over Milam is a net positive over the worse fielding.

Reality is Ryan would probably just be starting 2B here this year anyways

On this specific team, the tradeoff wouldn't be worth it.

Agreed, but apparently he wanted to play SS. Him and Costello bounced before we even had any portal targets (officially).

Unfortunately, this surprise didn't play to our favor but it's water under the bridge.

Bouncing before is what pisses me off the most about the transfer portal. Like just wait a second and the position is literally yours. Especially 2nd base this year.

Hurt Stanfield is better than 100% Larson in left field.

That's what pisses me off about Costello, because him leaving is likely the reason we went out and signed Yorke.

I must admit at the time I was super excited to have Yorke, but obviously he hasn't panned out the way we expected him to.

Larson is another one that i think jay would have loved to have kept but i think he wanted to play of and that wasn't likely to happen (I think he would have had a good shot at 1b too).

He's not playing much outfield at Texas either. He's primarily been a DH and is a platoon player there just like he's been here.

Costello has had a terrible conference season. He hit a bunch of home runs early on and is hitting .133 in B10 play. Dude absolutely fell off a cliff

Man I miss Larson, Costello and Ryan

I had high hopes for Larson but he would’ve had to change positions to play here once Stanfield announced he was coming back. He’s not beating out Brown, Curiel, or Stanfield.

And yet he's still not playing in the OF there. Could have done that here and he certainly would have gotten a look at 1B.

I don’t know about that, but he was pretty awful statistically last season in a year LSU won it all.

Yeah, it’s wild when guys transfer and end up basically in the same situation.
