re: For those that think Nuss has played "fine," go watch Flynn break him down on OTB

Are you saying this because you think I'm being critical of Nuss? My post was to illustrate he played pretty damn good for how bad this putrid OL is.

I'm convinced we're 7-0 with Pavia as our QB. That's all I need to know about our O line and Nuss.

You sound emotional. Flynn isn’t the only one who broke down Nuss’ film and saw how bad he played. A few others have as well. The kid just doesn’t see what the defense is giving him. There were wide open rushing lanes and wide open receivers he constantly neglects to see or just doesn’t pull the trigger on. The o line looks worse than they are because he holds onto the ball too long and then gets himself sacked instead of taking wide open check downs and scramble opportunities. He’s just not good. It doesn’t take a Hall of Fame QB to dissect that.

quote:nah. Flynn was a mediocre QB who rode other players to a championship. Even then, he lost 2 games on the way. He's shitting on a guy who has a worse HC, worse OC, worse OL, worse RBs, and worse WRs. Flynn played worse in games than Nuss has with a championship team handed to him on a platter.

Him shitting on Nuss is a bitch move.

Flynn made it as a back up QB in the NFL for years. He knows more about playing QB than you bud. Nuss hasn’t won a national championship or made it to the NFL yet so I’m not sure how you can shite on Flynn’s accomplishments just because he hurt your feelings criticizing Nuss.

That's fine and well, but the OL protection is no excuse for Nuss making poor decisions based on pre-snap looks. Flynn breaks down two examples of RPOs where the OL had the run blocked up well and Nuss decides to throw the WR screen. He breaks down another example where all indicators are that the defense is in quarters coverage and explains that in quarters coverage in a 3 by 1 set you are going to have single coverage on the X receiver and you go to the X received 10 out of 10 times. Nuss doesn't even look in that direction. Nuss either does not understand these concepts or they are not being taught, but the OLs inability to pass block has nothing to do with it.
I'll address the two plays you referenced. First, the RPO to the outside wasn't a dreadful read. It's essentially a numbers game when reading pre snap. Vanderbilt had a corner playing tight to the LOS and a safety at 11 yards presnap. In the box , they had 4 down linemen, 2 inside backers and an Apex'd defender to the top. At the snap, the Apex'd defender inserts himself into the run game on the inside zone action. Numbers wise, LSU had the 5 OL and a TE for a total of six blockers and Vandy committed to stop that run with what amounted to 7 defenders, meaning LSU had one they couldn't block. As it turns out, Vanderbilt stunts with the defensive tackle and a seam is created when they get caught in the wash but there's not enough time in a play to read that and it's not the QB's read anyway. Nuss sees 7 inserting into the run game so he throws it out wide to his outside receiver and you make Vanderbilt make a 1 on 1 tackle in space, which they did. Could he have just handed it off? Sure. But it's not an egregious misread.
On the Verts vs Quarters play, first of all it's a good defensive play call vs what you're trying to do offensively. Quarters, meaning cover 4, means that you have 4 defenders deep and 3 underneath defenders. It's a defense that is designed to take away the deep ball as every deep route is "capped" by a deep defender. I do wonder here if he was looking to TreyDez because they had an option tag on these vertical routes. Basically, for those who don't know, oftentimes your outside receivers have the "option" to break off their route if they see that the route called is covered. LSU made a killing with this with OBJ and Mettenberger as teams were so afraid of Odell blowing the top off, OBJ would break those deep comeback routes off for nice gains and Mett had the arm to throw those routes. For example, just like in this case, if you're running 4 verts and there are four deep defenders, the two outside guys can read that and turn their route into a deep comeback route. The QB sees that the route is capped vertically as does the receiver, so they go to the comeback to take advantage of the bailing defender because it's impossible for him to bail over the top of you and break on the comeback, unless you just run the slowest comeback route in history. You can see from the endzone view that Nuss' eyes are on Trey first. It's entirely possible since the receiver to the top reads it correctly and runs the comeback but Trey Dez does not that Trey (who is still kinda learning football btw) misreads the play here and just keeps running his vertical route into the bailing corner. Again, I don't know that for sure because I'm not in the meeting rooms to determine so, but I'd imagine if the X to the top is reading that corner then Trey probably was supposed to as well but kept running. You then go down the line of your progression so he goes to Hilton next but Hilton took a terrible release and in effect helps the safety cover him. His eyes go to Aaron next who is also capped and by then the sack comes. Based off of where his eyes went for his first progression, I think Nuss was expecting Trey to break off his vert to a comeback but he never did.

I expect my 5th year senior QB and son of an NFL OC to understand when the defense is bringing more than I can block, I have to get into a play where I can get the ball out to my hot receiver quickly
LSU isn’t struggling picking up blitzes. We are struggling blocking 3 and 4. What hot reads are immediately open when the defense drops 7 or 8?
If the O Line could competent block 4-5 rushers, Nuss would be playing significantly better.
He hasn’t been perfect, he’s not our problem.

Good point. A "hot receiver" or "hot read" is by definition a blitz beater. It's throwing to an uncovered receiver, typically the one that the blitzer would've been responsible for. If there's no blitz, there's no hot read.
Here's an example, let's say we come out in spread and run a smash concept which is hitches with the outside receivers and either verts or corner routes with the inside guys. If the defense runs Man 2, they have a corner for your hitches and can effectively bracket your two inside guys with a safety and a slot defender. The backer has the RB. If the defense gets pressure with the 4 d linemen that are rushing, where's the hot read? There's nowhere to go with the ball.

Nuss is like a fastball pitcher that doesn't have his fast ball. He can't hit a downfield shot and it completely limits this offense. When healthy I believe he could lead us to NC. But as he is currently we may need to go to MVB.

He has skilled players wait 3years and see how many of these skill players get drafted it will be quite a few. Nuss is playing average at best as QB and he frequently throws into situations you would expect a freshman QB to do. Just look at interception in end zone against SC he didn’t even look at the safety, combine that with his inability to run and we have a 7-5 team. No, it’s not all on Nuss the coaching has been even worse but Nuss is a liability this year.

This is so ridiculous. Nussmeier is getting hammered every time he drops back
At this point Nussmeier could pull out an AR and shoot the other 10 players and some of y’all would defend it
Dude is seeing ghosts and out of shape
