That’s the thing. He could easily put 1 billion into an NIL trust and it be enough to support Michigan for the rest of eternity.

They could buy the best rated player at every position for the rest of forever. Even with busts they’d still win a title 2 out of every 3 years.

He wouldn’t even miss the money.

It’s not sustainable

All it takes is for them to hire a decent coach and the tides will easily change. It’s legal to literally dump the entire bank account now. None of you will ever convince me that it’s not better to be able to spend money like this.

because he's an unproven high school kid. The QB transfer market is proving to be an extremely wise investment. Why pay $12 million for a high school kid with zero snaps when you can go grab a guy who has proven it at a smaller school who wants his name in bigger lights?

This entire thread is an overreaction to a one-off situation. Michigan paid their hometown boy a ton of money to stay home. That has no bearing on LSU's NIL ability.

Y’all are so devastated LSU doesn’t have a 20 billion dollar endowment but can’t understand we have enough money to win in college football.

It’s called having a good head coach.

People have said that about many schools over time. Texas, Bama pre Saban. It just takes some minor changes to fix that.

Michigan is the richest school in the country. Not even A&M or Texas have Michigan money though they are way closer than we are.

LSU is middle of the pack in the SEC. Once boosters at LSU, Bama, Ole Miss, etc… stop wanting to pay this kind of money to 18 year olds out of their own pocket, something will change. Rich people don’t like throwing money at shite.

That’s only part of it man. One can argue that our Bayou Ballers are the ones that got us to where we are. I tend to lean that way. But it’s combination isn’t it?. Do you think Miles was a good coach? Lol. How about ole Ed?

Our athletic program is probably as wealthy as any out there....but our alumni base (ie. collective money needed for NIL) is no where near the elites. We don't have billionaires, NFL Owners, Oil Barons, Fortune 500 CEO's etc, like many of these other schools have!

Bottom line, if it is not fixed soon, NCAA sports will be dead to most fans.

We hate pro sports for a reason....NCAA is about to FAFO, and once you lose us, it may be for good!

Yeah we just have to hope for a cap at some point.

How do you cap NIL? It's either allowed or it isn't. NIL is basically endorsements of which there are no caps for in any league I know of. Other leagues have salary caps sure but that has nothing to do with players getting shoe deals or appearing in commercials, etc. When revenue sharing comes along there's a proposed cap of 22% which is like a salary cap, but as far as I know players will still be able to get NIL endorsements from boosters and other business on top of that, and I don't see a way to cap that.

It's here to stay. And the teams that have higher endorsement opportunities will benefit. Schools without that kind of resource might still be able to compete using some kind of Moneyball strategy, and that's going to take innovative scouting to find talent where others aren't looking.

The thing that might save LSU is Louisiana talent and pride. We have coaches that understand the area and luckily Underwood is an out of state guy so that makes it just a little bit easier to swallow, and Saban isn't at Bama anymore who was the biggest competitor for that talent. It's never been more imperative to lock down our state, that has to be our main focus in recruiting.

No shite. The way around the cap is paying the players money under the table like it's been done for decades.

That's why this "the poor players are so exploited and used" that caused this NIL bullshite was so laughable. The producers were always paid under the table. The guys that didn't affect ratings and ticket sales were not as much. Ya know, kinda like capitalism is supposed to work.

You can thank all the liberal bullshite for destroying the game we have loved, (and that includes these BS targeting penalties that are called, when 90% of those calls shouldn't be targeting). Those dudes were well taken care of by the boosters without needing NIL.

yep, and most professional athletes aren't "rich," certainly not in the same league financially as these business tycoons, when I lived in FL and heard Tiger Woods was building a home nearby on Jupiter Island the common joke was "well, there goes the neighborhood," be cause he truly was the poor kid on the block compared to most of the old money on that island

Maybe going across the country to get a high school QB with no ties to your school or region is a bad idea.

All we have in Louisiana is Todd and Gayle, not that there’s anything wrong with that.

I think what we might end up seeing is those billionaires interested in buying a professional sports franchise, but either don't have enough billions or don't have the ability to buy due to lack of availability of teams for sale, will start becoming pseudo-owners of college football teams.

You’ll see all this capped eventually. People who think LSU can’t compete are ridiculous.

Michigan made underwood a godfather offer that we aren’t going to match. This board has lost their fricking minds.
