re: For all those complaining about fan support at home games

They need to bring back the vendor people walking the aisle again. If I didn't have to move / get up 50 timed for people going get concessions. If I stay home I don't gave that problem

They lost me with the BLM racist garbage. Don’t call me racist because I’m white and then beg me for money. It’s just doesn’t feel the same anymore since all that and I care much less about it.

Just curious but what did they do to make tailgating unappealing?
Posted on 10/23/22 at 6:30 pm to Coonas Tiger61
Slowly over the past 10 years, they made parking impossible for fans. We had an RV pass - use to be right across the street from the stadium, but they kicked most of us over to Touchdown Village. OK we still had fun but when our friends and family couldn’t find a place to park, they quit coming. After a while it was not worth all the work and expense of going out there.
Plus when someone in the stadium threw up on my husband’s shoes, he refused to go back. We regularly had 30+ people at our tailgates and just about all of them went to the games.

quote:As someone who has had season tickets for over 30 years, this just isn’t close to true. The tailgating is MASSIVE compared to what it used to be. The game used to be the biggest show in town, and yes people tailgated, but the huge all day massive tailgates everywhere around campus didn’t really exist. I actually think part of the problem is exactly opposite of what you are saying here. Tailgating has becoming a bigger deal than the game itself
LSU has actively did everything they can to kill the tailgate scene it's nowhere near what it use to be and they probably don't care if anyone ever shows up for a tailgate again

I lived in BR for about 11 years.
2000-2012
Some really good times for lsu football and tailgating.
Went to all games home and road…. Has big tailgate parties we hosted.
You’re exactly right.
I don’t make it like I used to and I don’t miss it bc it’s just not the same anymore.
Never understand why they wanted to kill the best thing on the country as far as football related activities

True to an extent but it's much worse at LSU.
No, it's not. But always blame others for your own lack of performance, it's the Louisiana way. How many games did you go to in the last four years?

They are also pricing out white collar fans.

What irritates me are the “on TV it looked empty” complaints. Their arse wasn’t there yet they piss and moan about fan support. If they are so worried about it, get out of the recliner and go to the game. Yes, traffic sucks, concessions suck, tailgating isn’t what it used to be, blah, blah. None of those things keep me from sitting there in the rain, in the cold, screaming my arse off.

I even live 10 mins from campus. Went to the fsu game but not a single home game. I just don’t have the drive in me to get to campus 5 hours before a game then wait 2 hours in traffic after the game.
I was home in Mississippi 2 1/2 hours after the game last night. How can you not get home in 2 hours if you are 10 minutes from campus? That doesn't make sense

The LSU employees are helpful with our tailgate every weekend

-LSU has priced out any blue collar fans. It has a very corporate atmosphere now I think we can all agree on this one. It's definitely not like it use to be 15 years ago even after inflation factored in.
Every one that sits around us in the South Endzone is blue collar.

No I don’t. Have you watched their games? Empty seats everywhere.
Large chunks of empty seats at UF last week too.

traffic
One contributes to the other. If you only have 90K at the game but another 40k show up to tailgate it's still a shitshow. From LSU's perspective, non paying tailgaters contribute nothing and increase traffic, trash and security costs. LSU has chosen to present a football game for paying customers. It's not obligated to provide a party venue to the general public.

I don’t think it’s corporate seats. Those at least get used. The problem are these people that sit on their tickets for 30 years & go to 4 games a season, fewer when we suck. That’s why they’re priced where they are as well.

2019 really pokes a giant hole in everything you’re saying. I live out of state and came in for 4 games that year—WAY more than any other year, and the atmosphere, noise, tailgating, and financial diversity were all fantastic.

414 checking in. No rich folks around us. Our two season tickets are cheap as they come. Always a great group of longtime fans around us.
Over all it was Great Day on campus.
We got to girlfriend's dad's RV to help set up tailgate at 7am. Then after game we helped pickup the Tailgate.
About 7pm, We left Touchdown village 2. Got all the way down Highland Road to my mom's house for supper in about 30 minutes. Contraflow works great when they do it right.
Lot of complaining here as usual. For the rest of us, It was just another awesome LSU Football Game day in the books.
Took this pic just before leaving. What a great day.

I don’t understand the downvotes. You’re 100% on point. The loud and true fans aren’t the corporate groups that own a chunk of the tickets. If you get tickets and park off of campus, your vehicle has a very good percentage of somebody breaking into it. If you pay for tickets and a parking pass, you’re looking at way too much money. Add traffic into it and it’s just not worth going to the game.

Look, it's getting late, and I presume you didn't *literally* mean everyone that sits around you gets paid on a hourly rate, but is somehow more wholesome than the rest of us asshats, but do you even believe this? Did you mean plant operators that made $80/hr in the 90s?
Baton Rouge becoming more shite than it was in the 90s was the most important factor in telling my kids not to go to LSU, but people like you are a close second. It's someone else's fault. The rich guy. The oil. Entergy. FedGov. Sonic has it out for us. Whataburger doesn't care.
If it gets me banned, fine. You can't take responsibility for what you vote for, what you ask for, and what you do and do not do. You don't do squat. Kvetch and talk about the "other guy." That's productive.
Even when I left, I knew that anyone that wanted to make something out of themselves was going to Texas, Atlanta, or DC. Or they'd just wait tables.
But the LSU employees at tailgates are helpful. #winning?
