They don't tour Mike around the stadium anymore as Eye of The Tiger is blaring over the speakers.

You wouldn’t complain about this if you knew the details as to why they stopped putting Mike in that cage. It was damn near torture for him to get into that cage. I miss that tradition as well, but it’s not worth doing that to Mike.

tell you why I gave up 4 season tickets 15 years ago. The PA announcer won’t shut up !!! It’s a constant commercial and drive me nuts. I’ll never go again until they get rid if the commercials. So never. Keep my money, use it for great outdoor kitchen, tv, bar, bbq, friends , bar. LSU chose this and there’s no going back. SHUT UP and let the band play !!!

Holy shite

How far off campus? I have not heard complaints of this happening. Over the 30 years I’ve been going I’ve parked at Pastime, Farr Park, TD village, parking garage, Vet school lot, Walk-Ons. Have never had a problem nor have I seen evidence of anyone else having a problem.

Im only able to attend 1 maybe 2 home games per year and I exclusively buy my tickets from people on the Ticket Exchange. We have a great group of friends that are long time season ticket holders that allow us to park near their spot and hangout with before/after games. We have never left early and have always had a great time. The experience is what you make it.

As someone who has had season tickets for over 30 years, this just isn’t close to true. The tailgating is MASSIVE compared to what it used to be. The game used to be the biggest show in town, and yes people tailgated, but the huge all day massive tailgates everywhere around campus didn’t really exist. I actually think part of the problem is exactly opposite of what you are saying here. Tailgating has becoming a bigger deal than the game itself

I think both things are probably true:
1. Tailgating is a bigger deal than it was 30 years ago.
2. Tailgating is not what it was 15 years ago.

Back in ~2010 the entire interior of campus would be packed with tailgating for big games. Now there are parts of campus that seem like a ghost town in terms of tailgating - particularly South Campus and Tower Drive south of the parade grounds. This is largely a function of the new (relatively speaking) parking policies.

I’m guessing that some of it is probably by design, where LSU didn’t want people setting up massive tailgates on certain parts of campus.

All of that said, I don’t really buy the idea that those changes to tailgating are having a big negative impact on attendance. I’m not 100% convinced we have a major attendance issue in the first place. I think it’s pretty simple. The stadium over-expanded.

There just aren’t that many games that can legitimately draw and keep a crowd of 100k+. It’ll happen from time to time (see 2019 Florida, probably Bama next weekend) but those games are the outliers.

Did anyone watch the SC game? They had a state fair going at the same time (absolute parking nightmare) and they still packed the shite out of WB stadium....against a 3-3 aTm team (not a rival) they have lost to consistently.

Their stadium capacity is less than 78,000.

For reference, Tiger Stadium’s capacity hit 78,000 when the first upper deck was built in 1978. Now it’s 102,000. If you remove 25,000 seats I’m sure our stadium would look packed as well.

Yes, this.
Every time I watch a home game, I keep thinking they over-expanded TS for what people are willing to spend and put up with traffic-wise.
We'll really pack the stadium once a year when Bama or Florida come to town. And maybe once more when a high profile team like Clemson or Texas come in.

Didn't realize that was the capacity for WB. Good point!

For all those complaining about fan support at home games
I’ve been to nearly every home game from age 18-29. Now that I’m 30 my viewing experience has change and I even live 10 mins from campus. Went to the fsu game but not a single home game. I just don’t have the drive in me to get to campus 5 hours before a game then wait 2 hours in traffic after the game. A lot of people in my age group are feeling the same

Same age. I planned my falls around LSU football from the time I was a a freshman in high school until I was 25. Drove all over the country going to Tiger Games and flew to BR multiple times a year.

I'm coming down for the Bama game in 2 weeks for my first TS game since Bama 2016. First LSU game since @ Tenn in 2017. It just doesn't carry the significance for me as it once did. That said, I'm thrilled to be making the trip and brining 2 first timers with me in 2 weeks.

C'mon man. USCe has no where near the tradition or success we've had.

They had their place rocking.

It’s the extra 10,000 seats.

You can’t give away those in the upper decks, and the secondary market is over saturated.

I think consolidation is what eventually needs to happen. On paper it sounds great to have 100k plus fans. The reality is that Death Valley lore was born with far less.

I don't disagree that a school can out-build its fan base.

But it should be mentioned that TS's lore came about with a different model in place than now.

LSU sold TS's soul for a few dollars more.

I call bullshite on the tailgating scene. It is DEAD. The old front nine is so empty, compared to pre-covid. Under the trees are 50% occupied. I drive up at 5am along Nicholson. And I can see clear Cross the lot. Remember when there where no nothing but tent frames and trailers? It's a few old pro's still hanging in.

A lot of places also have zero going on around them. They are legit college towns, where life itself revolves around it. LSU is a great campus, but Baton Rouge is far from a college town

LSU fans can be passionate and loud, but they complain all the time and use any excuse they can find to not show up.

I never understood the frustration over concessions, after 10 to 12 hours of tailgating why would you eat.

Traffic is an issue with any diehard fan base.

I never understood the fans that take a quick selfie and bounce when the game is on the line. I've noticed this with saints and LSU games.

Like Many have said.. it’s hard to compete with the luxuries at home and what tv has done to the game.
