My story is similar. I lived in Texas and followed LSU mostly through the newspapers. I was intrigued by the aura and noise of night games in TS.
Our stories go different ways at that point because I am an LSU alum.

I became a tiger fan when I lost a bet and had to get an LSU tat.

At 7 years old my dad took me to see mike and my cousin who pitched under skip Bertman. I bought an lsu hat at the gift shop next to mike that I still wear for big games. Watched my cousin win a national championship. Started going to a lot of football and some basketball games in high school. Then got to see my friend from childhood and Jesuit, Wally, win it all.
When it came time for college, I had full rides to several better schools that fit what I wanted. I spent four years fighting over the fraternity house tv with bama and UT fans at sewanee to watch games. I had to tell off my friends and steal the remote for what turned out to be the bluegrass miracle game. I jumped and screamed alone. I love lsu even more than the saints.

Louisiana born and raised, Tiger fans in the family, always dreamed of going to LSU...financial needs made sure that dream wasn't a reality, but I'll always be a Tiger at heart!

I think the support for LSU stems from it being the state's largest school, the football team is generally filled with Louisiana kids so it's like pulling for Louisiana on a national level

Some of the more hard core LSU fans I know didn't go and LSU is better for having them.

From New Orleans and graduated from Tulane. Had been going to Tulane games my whole life. Then a buddy invited me to an LSU game. It turned out to be the Earthquake game against Auburn in '88. Left Tiger Stadium that night thinking: "I know what I want to spend the rest of my life doing now..." Seriously... And I've done it. Best decision I ever made!!! And I was 24 !!!

For myself I became a fan in 1998 my Jr. year of high school. I got a letter from Gerry Dinardo before he got fired and was very honored to be even looked at be a school of that nature. I always wanted to play for Coach Robinson in GSU since I could remember. But You can ask anybody I know how much I love my Tigers. I kinda root for LSU more than the Saints.

My dad and grandfather went to LSU along with other family members and my whole family is from the Baton Rouge area. I just grew up with it. I also went to a college that had no athletics, so I had no issue remaining a die hard LSU fan.

I actually went to and became an alumnus of LSU BECAUSE I was a fan from an early age.
My first game was Oct. 25, 1969 - LSU 21 Auburn 20, as a very young Tiger cub.
I graduated 16 years later from the then Manship School of Journalism.

I was born with purple and gold in my veins and went to LSU for a year and moved back because I was homesick. So family and attended, albeit only 2 semesters

Started listening to WWL from 500+ miles away-night games in early 1970's..never went to LSU never knew anyone who did, never lived in LA or even near it...proud season ticket holder now for 20+ years, give what $ I can to LSU not to where I went to school....I LOVE LSU...I love the fans, the place, the students the team...I WISH I went to LSU...dont hold it against me

dad has had season tickets since 1959. he jumped on the bandwagon back then. we all grew up going to the games. none of us stepped foot on campus for classes at LSU, much less graduated from there.
my degree is from another school, but there has always only been 1 school that i cheer for.

I met a girl over here in my home town who was home from LSU on xmas break. Went up to see her about 4weeks later and ended up dating for about 3yrs,most of which she was a student there. My first game was '00 vs Houston. Atmosphere was the craziest thing I'd ever seen. Rained all day until game time. Sky open up, rainbow on south side from endzone to endzone. My next game was '00 Tennessee. Hook line sinker. Fan ever since then. Been to over 30 games in those ten years

Born and raised in Baton Rouge. Being an LSU fan is a way of life in my family. You grow up as a kid loving everything about LSU. I graduated from SLU but I am a tiger for life.
