Since apparently there are a few, I mean 1, poster here that seems to think that you have to go to a school to root for the team.

For all the Non-LSU graduates. How did you become a fan of the team

My Granddad is from Lutcher and a graduate of LSU. So he made sure I grew up rooting for LSU and the Saints. My parents couldn't afford to pay for college and I didn't have the grades to get a full ride, so I decided to join the Army. 19 years later and I'm a year from retirement from the Army. I've been a fan since I was a little kid and will be a fan until the day I die.

I went to LSU for 4 years (I was on the 5 year plan) for personal reasons I had to move back to my hometown, LC, before I graduated.

Born in Monroe and a NLU (ULM) grad. Have been a Tiger fan for 30+ years. Family and in laws all over the state of Louisiana. It's home. And I bleed purple and gold.

grew up going to games w/ family members starting at age 5. when it came time to attend college, I decided I wanted to go to a smaller school than LSU so I went to NLU/ULM. I think the same could be said for many other fans that didn't graduate/attend LSU. Most of my friends in college were from Louisiana and were LSU fans that decided to attend a different college.

Well, my dad used to listen to the games on the radio. When I was a kid, I remember doing the same with him. It caught my interest and just went from there. I could have gone to LSU, but choose not to since I figured I would party too much. I wound up doing that anyway at UNO and then transferred to SLU to finish my degree.

I moved here in 1990, and shortly thereafter a friend invited me to a game. He got free tickets through work and even secured the company van and condo for the trip over from The Chuck.I had never attended a college game before , the atmosphere tailgating was surreal. The music, food, booze and chicks was something I had never seen before. As we made our way into the stadium it started raining, so we donned trash bags and made our way in. Tiger stadium on a Saturday night and it was raining, The Gamecocks were winning, our flask was long empty and by the fourth qtr the game looked pretty bleak. An old man behind tapped me on the shoulder and handed me a flask. We all took swigs and shared a good time. The Gamecocks won, I've been hooked ever since.

Was it really necessary to start a new thread for this? We get it, you don't have to be an alum to cheer for the Tigahs. Don't get your panties in a bunch. The real reason there are so many tiger fans that went to college elsewhere in Louisiana, is because every other football team in the state sucks. By the way, neither of my parents went to LSU and they have been season ticket holders for 33 years. This is totally acceptable and incouraged by just about everyone from south Louisiana.

Went to UL for my first 4 semesters. During my sophmore year I went to nearly every LSU football game. I felt awkward being a student at UL and supporting LSU, so I transfered and spent my last 6 semesters at LSU.

I was born in Baton Rouge. My dad went to grad school at LSU. He would take me to campus, to see scrimages and games; we'd visit Mike the Tiger and root for the team on Saturdays.

I was always an LSU Tiger fan. Everyone in my house was. When I went away to school, I went to Virginia Commonwealth... they didn't have a football team, so I was never tempted to switch allegiances!

My Dad attended LSU in the mid 50's and I was brought up on LSU sports. I was following LSU sports LOOOOOOOOOONG before I had any understanding that a school was attached to them.

In high school I started dating a girl that was going to USL, so I followed her there, otherwise I'd have been off to LSU or potentially a JUCO to play baseball.

Attended my first game in 1982 as a 12 year old, and finally got my first season tickets back in 2001.

Too Poor to buy LSU Season tickets when I was younger, but after I got my GED, I became an LSU fan.

With my GED I was able to drink more, make more nasty gestures and spewed very loud words, like Tiger Bait.

I also support JJ.
