Frey is back to show he can play a position.

There is zero benefit to Frey coming back for any reason other than they drop him an absolute bag in NIL. Like a mid six-figure bag.

Him coming back losses him money otherwise. There’s nothing he can prove that will make him more money.

If Frey comes back it will be strictly because he enjoys playing college ball and values another year of it more than money offered. There is not much he can come back and do that will raise his monetary value.

Coming back to play a position has little to do with any decision that is made.

The only senior I can remember hitting well enough to not take a haircut on bonus was Ivan Melendez from Texas.

His senior statline was .387/.508/.863 32 HR, 96 hits, 16% K rate.

Melendez' junior year, as primarily a DH, was remarkably similar to Frey's junior year. Frey has a better athletic profile though, and Melendez has turned into a cautionary tale in the minors, as he's been absolute garbage.

Frey is not coming back. MLB will be drooling over his measurables. With his athleticism, they'll be confident putting him in the outfield and don't need to see him play a position in college. He'd lose an assload of money coming back.

Direct quote from Johnson. Take it as you will. I took it as if he goes where he’s being projected, Top 130 or so, he’s gong to go. Pick 130 carries a slot value of $571,000.

Johnson said. “He’s a great player, I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes high in the draft, but if he doesn’t, I’d love to have him, I think he can win the Golden Spikes Award next year if he came back.”

Looking back on it, yeah he did. So even his situation isn't entirely analogous. But numbers wise, that's essentially what Frey would have to do to not lose money by staying. And now I don't think even that would work.

If he does stay, and puts up those numbers, we'll be updating the intimidator again.

Just throwing it out there, Little Rock's Angel Cano was a Jr this year

The guy hit .230 for the whole year playing in the Ohio Valley Conference. Jones was getting crucified when he went into a slump and he was batting well over .300. What would this board do to Cano?

And he was so bad all season that he was able to double his season long HR and RBI totals in 3 games.

If Frey came back i feel like he would want to play OF.

Going from DH to 1B as a righty doesn’t help your draft stock that much

frey is plenty athletic and has looked rough in the OF but the kind of rough that a bunch of reps would fix

A lot of people damn sure forget this when it comes to LSU players.

And did he get better, or did he just get hot?

His OBP was lower than Brasswell's. He may get better but he is definitely not a guy you go after.

That outfit is almost as nice as Charles Deas…former football commit.

LSU has paid in that ballpark for a whole lot less production than Frey, and a player that barely had a cup of coffee at LSU has received in that same ballpark elsewhere

I personally don’t think Frey will be drafted in that slot and think his number will be closer to 500 K

Hearing Jay’s words on the subject actually gives me some optimism about Frey’s return. Sounds like he considers him a priority, and may just be overly optimistic about his draft potential for the kid’s sake

I don’t want to trash a kid, but am I just not seeing what the hype is with this guy?

I know he’s supposed to be a hitter, and maybe he will be great, but I just haven’t seen anything from this year.

What am I missing, or what don’t I know?
