Final thoughts on Nuss

I spent most of the game dumping on him thinking he was going to lose and waste an all time defensive effort.
For the first 3 quarters and 11 or so minutes, it looked like the moment was too big for him.
But the fact that he was able to step up and tie the game in the last minute and win it in OT proves otherwise.
This game and the way he ended it could be his springboard into elite territory.
Great for him. Great for the Tigers

The plays were there all night. Gotta hit them for 3 quarters

He’s a first year starter with balls.
I’ll take it.
I’ll take it.

It’s frustrating because he has the ability to be a great qb if he gets out of his own head. When he stays calm he makes plays

Agreed. Came up big in the end.

He needs to come back for another season because he isn’t NFL ready yet.
Really glad he pulled it out in the end. I don’t think he looked that good today from a whole-game effort, but he made the plays he needed to when it mattered

I think we can keep Rickie Collins on the sidelines for at least another half of football to see what Nuss has moving forward.

Calm and stays in the pocket he's fine. Bailing out of good pockets and throwing from his back foot is not fine.

This.
And he’s GOT to learn to run it sometimes. Those 3rd and 5 to 3rd and 10 range plays was where our last two QBs shined because they both could tuck it and run for 5 to 10 yards (hell JD could take it to the house). Think back on those years with Burrow how many times he ran up the middle for a first down on a 3rd and 6ish situation. Those types of plays separate a good QB from a GREAT QB. Find a way to extend the drive!

Man he had a miserable 59 minutes or so. Turned it on when we most needed it. But we won. Flush it, get better. He can't repeat this game.

When he gets time from the O-line he makes plays. If we had a running game worth a shite he would be phenomenal.

He had a bad game it happens to everyone in all sports he just needs to learn from his mistakes and improve you know instead of chunking the football to brusly/Addis run and pick up 5-10 yards

Oline gave him time all night.

He needs to start being a part of that running game.
Nobody worries about him running it. Not even in short yardage situations.

this is my take as well....this should give him tremendous confidence....not to mention he had a great run on 3rd and 13.....maybe he will start doing that 2 or 3 times a game.

Just wish he would run and open up the defense...teams key on the 1 RB and gear up the pass defense.

It was a rough night for him but he came up clutch when it ultimately mattered, thats a sign of a true competitor.
One thing I do have to say is we have to call plays better with higher percentage passing, way too many deep boom or bust type of pass plays being called, would love to see more slants/crossing/underneath routes scattered in. Hopefully Sloan addresses this moving forward. I know we are short handed in spots with the injuries but we can still manage this better that we can control
Also moving forward we have to work with Nuss on running it sometimes. Its okay to run 4-5 yards when nothing is there and get positive plays. He can still avoid hits but its one little thing I'd like to see added moving forward with him

I said it in the game thread-
He got hit against USC in the opener, and came up limping. I've seen him get up and limp back to the huddle a couple more times (not tonight), against South Carolina and South Alabama. Might have against Nicholls once or so. I didn't see the UCLA game to know if he did in that one.
I think something got dinged, and he's hurt. Not "can't play" hurt, but I think it sometimes affects him in the pocket, and I don't know if he trusts an open running lane.
Something else regarding Nuss- people were saying we should have gone for 2 at the end of the game. No way
Nuss was dropping back, throwing the ball 20+ yds downfield, and hitting basically one every 3-4 plays. Going with those odds, we probably don't get the 2 pt play. Also going with those, we probably score a TD in OT (which we did).

Kudos to Nuss for staying in the game mentality. I, like a lot of people, wanted to throw him under the bus and figured he’s not the guy. But when they needed it he was nails. Takes some special balls to still believe in yourself when you’re having probably your worst game. They’ll go through walls for him now.

He got them in the hands. There were plenty of drops.
