So he makes a few hundred thousand instead of millions? Poor guy.

Doesn't work that way. He has to actually make the final roster for that kind of money. A lot of UDFA get a scout team contract, which is much less.

Not to mention that a half million a year isn't really that great if it only lasts 2-3 years.

Yeah, making 1.5MM in 3 years is nothing to brag about.

In the NFL they only get paid during the season. If they have bonuses in their contracts then they get money for working out, being on roster on certain date, and any extra incentives and then they can get money in offseason. Nothing is guaranteed except your signing bonus. Don't forget some money that you do get goes to the agent. For Chris Faulk he probably won't see any real money unless he becomes a starter and makes Pro Bowl a few years. He should have stayed at LSU. Look at Sean Canfield for saints. He was drafted 7th round and constantly put on practice squad and then released. Probably made $2000 a week when on the practice squad but once released no guantantee he will be back on.

As others have pointed out tho.. he may just be afraid of another injury and not being able to make the NFL at all

The problem is, now he has to prove considerably that he is not injured, rather then continuing to rehab in college and play when ready. I would say his chance of reinjury is greater now then if he would have came back.

If he would have gone in the first five it might have been worth it.

Who will pay for the rest of Faulk's rehab?

I think the NY Giants paid for some of Chad Jones rehab, but this is much different because Faulk was undrafted. I doubt a team would pay for rehab of an UDFA. If he stayed in school, LSU would pay for it.

That's what's been confusing me from the get go. I figured him declaring early must mean he's either thinking he'll go really high or he's afraid of the impact of the injury. I was doubting that anyone would project him really high, so I figured it must be concern over the injury. But then what better course to address that concern than continue to get top notch treatment at LSU's expense and then get a season to prove that it's fixed.

I guess he might have been afraid it wouldn't get better, but it would be pretty silly to think that an NFL team would touch him without some confidence that he would recover completely.

I don't get it.

Wish him the best of luck, though. Even if I'd really like to see him back on our line next year . . .

Since when was tuition, room and board, food, access to tutors and athletic facilities that no other students get, and the LSU gear players get valued at $0?

It's worth around $40k all in....

Besides, would be easier to get a Degree as a player now he would have to study to get a degree.

Faulk is betting on himself. I think most free agent contracts are for 2 years. So if he actually performs well, he could get a good contract in 2 years. With the new salary cap for rookies, the second contract is where the money is made.

Certainly all Tiger fans wish him all the best. Some of these guys are either getting bad advice from the outside or are just short term thinkers...maybe both. Life is not a sprint, more like a marathon. The culture and the families are not serving them well either. Good luck Chris!

I wish him the best cause he's a tiger. I'm guessing the agent will now pay for the rest of his rehab & will collect from Faulk's contract if he makes the team?

Wish the kid would have come back. I don't think he had the right guidance.

however, he can be a good example for the lsu and their young players. He and ford, . Unless you are projected a top draft pick, you are better off staying. no guarantee you will be drafted.

Considering he wasn't drafted in rounds, he likely won't see any real money. I also think the chances of making a roster are slim......even if he makes a practice squad, it doesn't justify leaving early.

In retrospect, he really should have rolled the dice at LSU again.

Sucks for him.

I would think rehab is still done by LSU for him. If a senior gets injured in his last career game, his surgery and rehab costs would still be covered.
