running counters, and running with a lead blocker, like Mashburn.

Better blocking, led by #82 Jack Mashburn, who locks up defenders with great blocking technique all game long.

Football is as complicated as people selling advertising want to make it.

But it is this simple most of the time.

Exactly. I’m curious to see if we keep mashburn as starting tight end and move bech to wide receiver with boutte out for the year. With a starting wr core of bech, Brian Thomas, and Malik nabors

A reason why O was terminated…it took half the season to make adjustments in the run game. A real coach makes those adjustments after game 1.

They changed their blocking scheme away from zone blocking to hat on hat. Block this guy instead of block that area.

eta: Basically, they simplified the blocking schemes which helped make it clear who was responsible for blocking who. This also helped TDP because where the hole is supposed to be is more clear. It also helped that it seems like he's finally finding the hole instead of just running straight into the pile.

OL finally making blocks
Better play calling/scheme
Mashburn emerging as a lead blocker at TE

Martinez at RG was pretty solid too

It's blocking scheme and play calling.

Edit: Sorry, you asked to explain it like you're five.

Imagine your mommy and daddy give you ten dollars to open up a lemonade stand. So you go out and you buy cups and you buy lemons and you buy sugar. And now you find out that it only costs you nine dollars. It's blocking scheme and play calling.

Defense is giving LSU light boxes, guards are suddenly killing it in zone blocking.

Jack Mashburn is legit blocking 1-2 guys every single play

Committed to the run and keep pounding

Mashburn baby. If he's not on scholly, he needs to get one ASAP.
ETA: Everytime he was on the field, I watched him this game. I'm curious what his actual grades will be but I didn't see him miss one block. Just squared up and got physical. It was so refreshing to watch. Need more players like him on this team!

Switched to Gap blocking vs Zone (see man block man)

Ran basic counter traps, more down hill running vs zone read

This whole time we thought the line was just THAT bad, it was just the coaches couldn't figure out that it's the round peg that goes into the round hole.

Every run now has an element of misdirection and TDP seems more adept at cutting against the grain. He's not a pure north and south runner and needs a little bit of an angle.

scheme that fits OL strengths and not weaknesses. TDP is also running harder.
