We used to run inside zone where running backs have to make QUICK decisions and hit the holes that open on the run
We have now been running gap schemes (power, counter, trap) that allow a patient back like TDP to know where to look for the hole and press it.
Example: to run power, the RB must side step, receive handoff, press A gap and follow guards or leads up through the hole. If A gap is there they just bury it for 2 yards. If the blocking develops you have potential for large gains.
TLDR: TDP runs gap scheme better than zone due to his physical attributes and vision. It’s that simple. Took too long for the staff to try it.
Relation:
Great Zone Runners : Addai, CEH, Warrick Dunn, and Mike Shannahan RB
Great gap runners: Frank Gore (the best of all time iyam), Laveon Bell, TDP

Probably practiced withOUT O, he had NO idea what the game plan was, he was meeting with SW by design

He always ran hard, now he has some daylight. They need to keep it up and integrate more rpo’s, they actually work with a running game. Hopefully they have more than that counter play, because it’s defendable with a disciplined front

The Guards are not zone blocking at all. They are pulling, and so are the tackles. It's beautiful.

A good coach would see the weakness before they played a game and have some different style fronts available to try in the first few series of the first game.
we had nothing and the kids knew it. now they have a scheme they can execute and ... boom. 287

What have we done that is different to finally breakthrough against very good competition?
IMO, O let the coaches go nd do their thing. Before the season he said this is his style of offense and defense. It didn't work and he knew changes were needed. He let his staff do what they thought best.

And pulling both guard and tackle

We aren't running "Joe Brady's offense" anymore

They finally schemed to their players strength. Zone blocking failed miserably for our line and our RBs. Gap scheme and power are what they’re better at. By a wide margin. The counter worked beautifully bc our guard and tight end were owning their assignments all day. TDP is a very good runner for this scheme as well.

Remember the beginning of 2019 when people here were posting about how CEH needed to be benched? I do and you were probably one of them
ETA: Interestingly CEH's best game through 7 in 2019 was against Florida just like TDP's this year.

A real coach makes those adjustments after the first half of game 1.

Mashburn baby. If he's not on scholly, he needs to get one ASAP.
It’d be awesome to see O present him with a scholarship in the locker room if he isn’t already on scholly.

Everytime he was on the field, I watched him this game. I'm curious what his actual grades will be but I didn't see him miss one block. Just squared up and got physical. It was so refreshing to watch. Need more players like him on this team!
I’m about to watch the replay on ESPNU and I’m gonna key in on him. I got lost in the sauce watching the game so it’s a lil bit blurry

It's a simple as this. Jake Peetz picked up an old NFL Strategy Board Game (circa 1970s) at a garage sale, and discovered there's a basic off-tackle run play called a "fold" which is successful for 5 or more yards 90% of the time, if properly executed.
Well, he tried it out in practice, then in real game situations. It turned out Florida was completely unable to stop that run, and never was able to adjust through the course of the game.

Yes , I agree that a real coach makes blocking adjustments ( actually in preseason ) , instead of waiting for 6 games to figure things out . We were only paying O close to 3/4 million per game by the way .

We went away from the Brady offense, to a more run oriented lineup. We added a blocking TE, and sat an extra WR.
I heard Slinger drew it up, but who knows actually? Since Ed was already on his way out, he probably wasn't mandating the change. Or understand how to.

Isn't Mashburn basically performing a blocking FB duties. I once threaded that we needed a blocking FB similar to Cory Carter. I got tarred and feathered for suggesting such nonsense. You downvoter guys know who you are.

The O line stopped that zone blocking thing and began man on man blocking with counters and pulling linemen
