That's some hefty expectations - even for most SEC programs - outside of - Kentucky and maybe Florida - and you're expecting that out of LSU - a football and baseball school - good luck with that one.

This is essentially asking LSU to be what Auburn and Alabama have been for the past 8 years. Definitely not too much to ask.

Wade has never accomplished this.

Was he supposed to do this at VCU or McNeese? The only year that Aleva allowed him to coach in the NCAA tournament while at LSU was the weird 2020-21 season.

tough to expect a natty in hoops unless you bring in a championship level coach, due to the nature of the NCAAT. We aren't likely to be pulling from that type of pool anyway

I just want to consistently make the tournament and make a solid run in some of those years. You build from there. If Wade can't elevate past that, we re-evaluate down the road.

What makes everyone think he would do anything special at LSU?

who are we bringing in that will?

This isn't football where we're a premier job pulling from an elite list of candidates. Most interested in this job are going to have serious warts on the resume.

Wade was on the verge of at minimum consistency that has failed the large majority of basketball coaches before him here.

make it to the tournament at least 70% of the time.

70%? Frick that!

It's not unacceptable to ask for an NCAA Tournament appearance every season!

These people don’t follow basketball. Kelvin Sampson has 0 nattys, does he suck? Bruce Pearl, 0 nattys yet these same people use him as an example of greatness all the time. Jim Boeheim, 1 natty in 47 seasons, does he suck? Slick Rick, considered by many a top 5-7 coach alltime has 2. Bobby Knight won 3. These people have no idea what college basketball even is or what it takes to have success in the sport. They’re just ignorant.

especially when you look at our basketball history

"OMG wade hasn't even been to a final 4!!!! Why do you think he's so great?????????"

well I don't think he's the next coach k but basketball was at least fun under his tenure and we were relevant.

If nothing else, the last 4 years have shown just how LITTLE LSU fans know about basketball and the college basketball landscape on the whole. Yet, that doesn't stop them from taking definitive, almost always ignorant, positions.

Example No. 62,598...the poster you reply to that says "If Wade can't win at NC State then he can't win at LSU"...the implication being NC State is a much better program.

I'm CERTAIN that poster has no idea what NC State's record was last season. That it was 12-19 (5-15) with a 16th place finish in the ACC. That even with Wade's "inability to win" he improved the overall record by 8 wins...to 20-14 (10-8), tied for 6th in the 18th team league. That poster probably doesn't realize that, prior to this season, "powerhouse" NC State had reached three, 3, THREE, NCAA Tournaments in the last 10 years. One of which being a total fluke by winning the ACC Tournament as a 10 seed. That, if you are keeping score at home, is the same amount of NCAA Tournaments Wade reached at LSU, alone.

but you have to tie in the premise with at what cost are we willing to spend a coaching budget and nil budget that is high end only to achieve mediocrity in the sport. i promise you after making the tournament 4 years out of 6 years that it will quickly become not good enough and people will get bitchy.

well its even weirder because the crowd that wants to give Mcdipshit more time will shite on wade's resume. Like.....what?

"McMahon inherited a bad situation!'

uhhh so did wade when he got here. Fielded a competitive team in year one and then had 4 straight NCAAT teams (going to project the COVID season team as in but if you want to remove that one fine)

Well at that point we will finally be out from under the albatross contracts that Scotty left us with.

Buy outs will be paid and mulkey retired so we can finally fund basketball with the NIL it deserves to make a deep run,

The damage Scott did is sickening

Don’t want to put them all in one box as far as their motivations go but none of them are Basketball fans.

so quit on the woman's sport that achieves annual top 10ish tiered success for the boy's sport so we can be closer to mediocre?

maybe it will....but we need to at least achieve that status before deciding its good enough

should Miss St have playoff aspirations in football from any hire they make right off the bat or should the goal be to build a winner first and then see if he can elevate from there?

and again, who are we pulling to have that level of expectation of?

Yes a sport that is profitable is more valuable than one that loses a ton of money.
