A federally convicted former Arizona assistant said LSU basketball coach Will Wade told him about a $300,000 deal to land star forward Naz Reid in a secretly recorded FBI video shown in federal court on Monday.

Did we hire said coach? No? Alright then.

Feinbaum, Forde, and Vitale have been exposed so they are leery of jumping to the next rumor.
Only the WW haters are still running with every rumor like Chicken Little.

Since all of this came out in February 2018 there has only been one person I heard who has been down right honest about college basketball. Charles Barkley.

quote:

“I’m still trying to figure out why the FBI is involved,” Barkley said. “Listen, I went to college in 1981. We cheated back then. We’re cheating now. They’re always cheating. The toothpaste is out of the tube. They said they gave that kid at Arizona (Ayton) $100,000. He was underpaid. There must’ve been closed bidding because I would’ve gave his (expletive) more. “I didn’t realize the FBI needed to be paying attention to college basketball. Maybe if they were paying more attention (to other matters) they wouldn’t have screwed up our (presidential election).”

quote:

“These (political) parties suck. Plain and simple,” Barkley said. “The Democrats have been taking my votes and black people’s votes for granted for 100 years. Republicans do what they do — they’re gonna take care of rich people. We as democrats have to start calling our party out more.

I guess just the first part of the quote is relevant, but my point is. Everyone who follows college basketball knows what goes on on college basketball and it has been that way for decades.

I remember listening to Finebaum one day and in one breath he said "college basketball has always been a cesspool" then in the next breath he was talking about how bad things were for Will Wade (this was before he got reinstated).

Why is this such a big deal? Seriously? If anyone thinks Duke, UK, North Carolina, Kansas, etc, etc, etc has never paid for players then I don't know what to say. It's all in what you can prove. Can they prove those schools paid players?

As for as Will Wade, okay there was a claim of $300k deal. Now prove it. If it can't be proven how can he be fired?

How ironic.

Just grow a pair. Like my Irish grandmother used to say, "We may not have much, but at least we've got a fight."

Any traction this is getting (and it looks minimal) will die when the next school is mentioned.

I want to say that but every new thing makes it feel like we're just putting our head in the sand

Schools have been doing these things for years. What did the NCAA think would happen when sponsors started pumping in millions and millions of dollars into basketball and football while allowing their coaches to receive millions and players not getting at least of piece of the pie?

And yes, you could say that they're receiving a full ride to college with a place to stay and so on but tell that to the kid that has nothing and comes from an environment where their athletic abilities are the only way to get their families out. The NCAA should be the ones held accountable for their lack of institutional control for allowing these programs to attain the status it has and expect the kids to sit back and just go along for the ride.

If anyone has their "heads in the sand" it's the so called "fans" that still think there's no one out there that cheats. They ALL do. Some just do it better than others and there are some that have more to bring to the table.

Get used to it fellas - Will Wade is going to be fired and in the end, it will be the 100% right move.

and anyone who thought Smart was the only player Wade offered benefits to is hopelessly naive.

Almost immediately, Wade brought in a 5-star from NJ, a 5-star from FL, and 4-stars from CONN, FL, and LA.

Even then, it raised a red flag in my mind, but I was hoping Wade was just a dynamic young recruiter who could connect with these guys.

So much for that theory....

So Wade was trying to hire a Coach in hopes of landing Naz Reid. Is that a recruiting violation?

All I see is a bunch of hearsay. LSU will lose the trial in the court of public opinion, but nothing will come of it as far as the NCAA.

Most of the fans know everyone cheats, they just put it out of sight, out of mind, continue to pretend its amateur college athletics, and all that matters is winning. It is almost like a religion and the one thing that they cannot tolerate is anything that threatens their belief.
