Broski, you seem like a reasonable guy. There's politics in everything these days. If this all continues, you will see a lot of NFL owners losing their asses. If they aren't making money, then salaries get cut. If salaries get cut, then the college farm system becomes less and less important. The more this civil unrest continues, the less the general population cares about sports and instead focuses on family. That means ticket sales drop, merchandise doesn't move and the snoball continues to roll downhill. In every sense, these professional and college athletes (to a certain degree) over value their importance to society. What will they do when the well runs dry? At this rate, it won't take long.

Who knows what will happen, but the salary caps continue to rise, so they seem fine right now.

Regardless, what does any of this have to do with Chase opting out for political reasons?

You really think the NFL is just going to stop?

Then the players who can’t save their money will have to find other employment. That’s what I’m saying.. most of us realize that without sports, we still keep on living. It’s just one less form of entertainment available. If people stop consuming CFB and the NFL, it’s the players that take the hit.. not us regular folks.

A lot cooler heads prevailed 24 hours after Chase’s announcement. The same will happen for Shelvin.

Sports has survived depression, world wars, and everything in between.

Some political division isn't going to take it out.

You’re right. It’s just frustrating.. but it is what it is. I hope things will calm down after November. This year has been one kick in the dick after the other.

ETA: I do appreciate that we can have a rational discussion Most people online just lash out if they disagree about something

At least just admit that the only thing that's changed is the politics don't agree with you anymore. The NFL has ALWAYS been political (hell, they even got a statute written specifically for them in the federal code).

The timing is very suspect. He was at practice, working hard with his teammates and then 1 month before the season opener decides to opt out? C'mon. I respect Farrell and Vincent (no idea what happened with Thomas appears he transferred to UAB) for opting out early so the coaches could prepare. Now Shelvin opts out? Something's going on.

What if it's more than that? What if it's because of a simple compliment Coach O made about the President of the United States?

Then the players are still well within their right to do exactly as they are doing.

I’m beginning to realize that my life doesn’t change whether a bunch of kids play football. I think they are overestimating their importance. Who loses if CFB ceases to exist? Not me or you. The players.

The NFL would draft them from high school or set up a minor league system. They would arguably be better off.

About Coach O : I don’t care if you are an alpha male that can bench press 350 10 times squat 600 pounds. If you watched Joe Burrow’s heisman speech and saw his love for Coach O, you know how important EO is to any young man’s life. That look in Ed’s face brought me to tears brother. I would run through fire for that man.

And to win a NC and a perfect season sells itself. Enough said.

Everybody is selfish, agreed. Is it ok? Of course not. It is our life's work to overcome this.

Man, you are right on point. Watch the TV ratings plummet for the kneeling NFL this year. A healthy majority of the population are sick and tired of politics being injected into the game of football. A game we used to love. When the NFL declines so do those multi-million dollar rookie deals and so on.

The NFL is gaining in popularity and has been for years now. It’s making huge gains internationally. They won’t miss a few butthurt Americans.

Hopefully, they make it into the NFL a week before it goes bankrupt.

Out of curiosity, when do you think the NFL goes bankrupt?

And if that happens, another industry will become popular. Money will still be spent, just not on the same things.

Either way, the NFL isn’t going anywhere for a long long time.
