...and that's ok.

The fans are selfish in that they want the players to stay so the team they cheer for can win. And the players are selfish in leaving so that they can protect their future earnings.

Just stop with all the pearl clutching and melodrama and admit you're pissed for no other reason than that this directly affects LSU's chances of winning.

What if it's more than that? What if it's because of a simple compliment Coach O made about the President of the United States? What if....

I’m beginning to realize that my life doesn’t change whether a bunch of kids play football. I think they are overestimating their importance. Who loses if CFB ceases to exist? Not me or you. The players.

Tell that to Chase when some NFL team pays him 8 figures in 6 months.

Why do you think that is the case and not because of how mutated this season will be?

Then why are all these players jumping ship? COVID? No one can convince these young athletes are scared of COVID. What do you think it is?

Playing in a weird arse season amidst a pandemic.

Why do you think it's politically-charged?

Because for many of these players sports is the only way out of a bad situation. That’s not racist- that’s just a fact. If CFB doesn’t exist, many of them don’t get the same opportunity to get wealthy in the NFL or, at the very least, a quality education for free.

Not when it comes to a contract worth millions, other stuff, yeah but not when it comes down to the money. This has been coming for awhile but the current situation has just speed up the process.

Or, the school wouldn't benefit from the millions that the players help generate and are forced to stay in school 3 years after high school. Works both ways. They both help each other.

I'm confused, how does this prove that they are sitting out for political reasons?

Man, you are right on point. Watch the TV ratings plummet for the kneeling NFL this year. A healthy majority of the population are sick and tired of politics being injected into the game of football. A game we used to love. When the NFL declines so do those multi-million dollar rookie deals and so on.

Yeah, but the bad ratings have been a cord cutting problem, not a political problem.

Did you hear Pete Carroll's speech today? Ryan Tannehill's rant yesterday? See Nick Saban's march today? Bruce Arians? It's way too coincidental.

So honest question... why are they opting out? Afraid of COVID? Afraid of getting hurt?
What is it??

As I've said multiple times in this thread, I think it's related to not wanting to play in a mutated season amid a pandemic.

Broski, you seem like a reasonable guy. There's politics in everything these days. If this all continues, you will see a lot of NFL owners losing their asses. If they aren't making money, then salaries get cut. If salaries get cut, then the college farm system becomes less and less important. The more this civil unrest continues, the less the general population cares about sports and instead focuses on family. That means ticket sales drop, merchandise doesn't move and the snoball continues to roll downhill. In every sense, these professional and college athletes (to a certain degree) over value their importance to society. What will they do when the well runs dry? At this rate, it won't take long.
