Of course they have the right to opt out. They also know there may be millions of $$$$ ahead of them. What if the NFL politics itself out of business? Does it matter to you if entire teams kneel during the national anthem? It matters to me and a lot of other people.

That's what you are being fed. Don't believe it, but the NFL could always move to Europe.

Move to Europe? Where do you guys get this stuff from?

NFL isn't going bankrupt, they're not moving to Europe. It'll go on as it always has. It'll look different in the next 20 years, that's about the only certainty.

Old timers that don't embrace the changes will fall by the wayside, will say stuff like "used to be a lot different back in my day" and different types of fans will replace them. That's the history of the league.

Some of y'all are going off the rails with this. Is it disappointing that LSU is losing players? Yes.

The two most recent, Chase and Shelvin, seem to be coming to business decisions. Chase is a 1st rd pick, Shelvin made some preseason All SEC teams and had already been noticed.
For some reason, both have come to the conclusion that it would be better for them to sit this season out and enter the draft on their current body of work, than to play.

Do I like that? No, I looked forward to seeing them play at LSU this fall. Do I resent them for that? No. Do I think it's political? No, I'd suspect that they would say so if it was (after all, they'd be praised nationally for doing so).

So why now? Well, makes you wonder about this first couple weeks of school and practice, doesn't it? Are people getting sick, on the team or around them? Are things too sloppy for this point before opening week?

Bottom line...It's all about the $$$$. Last I heard the Dallas Cowboys were the most valued franchise at close to a Billion and there are 31 other teams worth somewhat close to that. All of the brand new multi-billion stadiums will be half empty (not from COVID). Lost revenue to the local and state governments. TV ratings so low you'll need to kneel down to see them. Salaries will drop for players, coaches and so forth. It's inevitable for not only the NFL, NBA, MLB. The players salaries have gotten out of control. The franchises have to put butts in the stands, viewers in front of their TV's and purchasers in line for merchandise. TV audiences have been trending downward since 2017. Why do you think MNF keeps changing their broadcast team? It's right there if you choose to look. In full disclosure, I could care less about the NFL, NBA, MLB. They're a bunch of spoiled, entitled primadonna's. It's college football for me because there are a ton of players who will never make it to the next level and put their bodies on the line for the love of the game.

Does praise nationally translate well with NFL front offices? You tell me.

Then why can't you and/or anyone else, like the players say that? Just curious. Some folks are scared of it and some aren't.

Tell that to Chase when some NFL team pays him 8 figures in 6 months.
What if COVID ends up cancelling football before the end of the season. I mean pro and college. What if no one knows whether there will be a season next year? You think the big salaries are going to continue without the revenue to back them?

And perhaps this is really about these guys either having it right now and not admitting it and knew they would have to go through quarantine and knowing that would possibly hurt their draft status.

I’m not following you here. How would getting Covid affect one’s draft stock in any way?

Well it kills some folks. Others have long recoveries with scarred lung tissue. The horror list goes on. Would that happen to an athlete in prime health? Probably not but it could. Who knows, having already had it might actually be a plus in the eyes of NFL management. You do know they won't be allowed to play if they have symptoms?

Some of these “posters” need to get a life, Paul. It’s a crying shame.

It’s none of your business. You don’t own them and they owe you nothing.

And while we're at it, perhaps you'll admit that the only reason you made this thread is to prove how "above it all" you are, and show us that you're bigger than the rest of us, even though you probably spend as much time sweating the outcome of all things LSU as anyone else.

Personally, I adhere to an old school mentality of never bailing on your teammates, and not letting money dictate your loyalty to those around you. Within reason, of course, as there does come a point when it's time to move on. Too often, people try to boil these situations down to "you wouldn't risk millions on the table if it were you", as if playing is going to ensure that you get hurt and end your career. You can get hurt in practice. You can get hurt at the combine. I believe in honoring commitments. You got a free ride through college because of your athletic scholarship, so the deal is that you play and earn your keep. I believe that good things come to those who put others before themselves.

That's not to say we don't all get a little selfish. By human nature, people can't help but be somewhat selfish. But this is one of those "screw you, I'm gonna get mine" kind of decisions. These players have the right to do this. I'm not arguing to force them to play against their will. But I don't have to respect their decisions. And I don't. It's that simple. Yes, I want the best players on the field. And I suppose you don't? That's weak to try to use that argument. But that's not why most of us are upset. Players leave early all the time, and it disappoints us, but it doesn't make us angry. This is different. This is bailing out. And it seems pretty cowardly. And if it's over some personal beef, as some have speculated, then it's really petty.
