The struggles against running QBs have been rough. But all in all, when compared to House's trash defense from last year, Baker has done pretty well with the hand he was dealt.

Improvements (national rankings):

Total Defense
2024- #56 (365.7 yds allowed/game)
2023- #110 (424.7 yds allowed/game)

Passing Defense
2024- #62 (221.3 yds allowed/game)
2023- #121 (264.2 yds allowed/game)

Rushing Defense
2024- #59 (144.4 yds allowed/game)
2023- #79 (160.5 yds allowed/game)

Scoring Defense
2024- #59 (24.7 pts allowed/game)
2023- #86 (29.5 pts allowed/game)

He’s the truth. Would be better had Kelly hired a real OC to put less pressure on our defense

Blake Baker and the rest of the D staff have been great.

That is a guy who you wait and let him get his guys. This defense has less talent than last year and we all saw how bad they were. You let baker get his guys and be patient with this one.

So, just following trends, nothing scientific, it looks like we should have a total defense rank of 28, which i will take. It isn't where I want to be, but it's 2 years away from it.

Passing defense about #34
Rush defense about #39
Scoring defense about 32

That's where we should be around, my expectations at least.

Yep. Talent will help tremendously.

While I think he could be doing a better job against the running QBs, there have been a lot of times a defender, or two, or more, have been in position, and just not made the play. Been a step late, took a bad angle, missed a tackle.

Remember we play clemson and in the sec. Lot of teams in top 25 aren't playing elite schedule, only a handful. Top 30-40 defense while in the sec is pretty damn stout

Keep in mind that we have the worst three way rotation of safeties this program has seen in modern LSU history, a massive starter out for the year at OL and LB, and we're still able to be this much better than we were a year ago.

I have no clue what the numbers are but I feel like this year we’ve been pretty good on third down with the exception of that three game skid

Still so sickening that had we just had this mediocre defense last year we’re probably playing Michigan in the CFP and if we get past them we beat Washington and win it all

With arguably less talent too

Not so great after those three games. Currently ranked #79 in the country, opponents averaging 41.3% 3rd down conversion rate.

We still absolutely suck on defense but I think he’s done a good job for year 1 considering the starting point.

Brian Kelly fricking up the offense is what ruined this season.

I think they are starting to get some talent at LB and CB with recruiting. DL is coming along. Need to up grade safeties. Get Guillory and Perkins back and we start getting some depth.

...and I think it's a less talented defensive roster.

This defense with Jayden last year…we might have been breaking out the cigars.

They absolutely have to hit on a few. Whether it's recruits, transfers, or somebody on the roster that finally gets it, at this point is looks like a glaring weakness going into next year, very likely the biggest, and maybe the only one on defense.
