This is spot on. I was really hoping for him to progress into a better QB this year. He is the same as last year and will continue to play poorly against quality opponents.

People who think he will drastically improve are naive. The same people praising him will be complaining in a few weeks.
Don't forget, he couldn't cut it at Purdue.

I was an Etling fan and had high hopes, but I've just accepted it.

I don't know why people thought he'd progress, Etling's limitations are things that typically don't just get better for 5th year guys. Even in a better system there's just not much juice to squeeze

I was just being optimistic I guess. Only so much improvement you can do in the offseason, looks like he didn't do much.

He (Etling) needs to trust the pocket longer

Lets see you trust the pocket when there is a 350lb Simmons bull ready to take your family jewels away.... Simmons was actually running thru LSU pre-game practice drills intimidating LSU players and the refs turned a blind eye....

Lets check the refs bank accounts over the next few days to see if there is a little payday in the mail from MSU

I don't know why this board continues to make excuses for Etling, no he's not our biggest problem but when you have as many holes as we do, having someone as limited as Etling in there just further magnifies those.

Yea, it is odd, usually we're quick to give up on a QB, but it seems like many are giving Etling a bunch of chances for some reason.

and not that the always blame the QB crowd is right, but with Etling people seem really quick to give him a pass

First of all he probably graded out better than any other position on the team other than punter and RB.

Well to be honest, after two cupcakes and a yet to be determined Mississippi State, he has graded out at number 50. with a QB Rating of 62.2

He made it look like he was pressured an extra 10 times by leaving the pocket before it actually collapsed

Lack of trust in his o line is what that means

I was wondering that myself because of his dancing "white people" quotes......

I dont see any humor in his quote/s unless he is trying to say white people can't dance?

If that's it he can dance on top of this dancing banana

JT Barrett for OSU for example. He didn't start the season off great. OSU has a top QB waiting for his chance. Urban didn't panic and give up on JT. That's what winning coaches do. They trust their evaluation of their players and don't prematurely put players who aren't ready in the fire.

Saban took a different path when it came to Hurts because he knew he was the better option. I'm pretty sure he had it planned to get him on the field as soon as the other QB gave him a good opportunity to pull him.

I'm not sure if it's been discussed here yet, but Etling had 29 pass attempts. Tack on two sacks, and that's 31 drop backs.

What's up with the discrepancy?

Although Etling doesn't scare a defense, the WRs played terrible and Etling had a nice 65-yard TD taken away for no good reason. The OL and receivers were way more problematic than Etling. Also, Guice is the guy who busts longs ones, so they should have been throwing some balls to him out of the backfield to slow down the rush and possibly bust a big one. Didn't understand that.

He's pointing out this board has a tendency to give white QBs more leeway.

Unfortunately there's no better option currently. Brennan isn't ready quite yet, especially with this OL.

Put in the guy that can make plays with his feet when our weak OL inevitably collapses.

Not to makes excuses ....
but a couple of observations.
a) Football is a game of momentum, the 1st penalty that negated a TD changed the momentum.
b) The O lines was not able to protect...they were exposed.
c) The D line was depleted.

One ejection, the 1st penalty and I think the 6th penalty, were totally incorrect.

this guy gets it..

that would be Narcisse... actually he would have been the guy that I would have went to the minute i saw the Oline collapsing... would have given it maybe 3 series... cant mess arround and let them get up so big, once that happens, a young team shuts down.. the HC has to know these things..
