I expect a 5th year senior to either, not throw 50/50 balls into double coverage or check out of a bad play into something that his a higher percentage and moves the chains...That's what an experienced"game manager does". He's fallen short of that at the moment

Out of 53 pass attempts this season he's thrown 2 50/50 balls with a completion pct of 50% lol.

Ive come to the conclusion that Etling can go 10 for 30 with 125 yards every game and fans/coaches will always find an excuse for him. Im just ready for 2018 so we can move on with a new QB.

Anyone who thinks he sucked on Saturday can be immediately disregarded from future meaningful discussion.
Having said that, he's not going to win us the game. He's a steady player who should be used to try to get the ball to our playmakers. In no way is he going to single handedly keep us in a game. Apparently, that is what some posters want/expect out of a QB.
Etling was fine Saturday. Could have played better, but didn't play bad.

The rantard mantra. Always time to bring in the backup. Idiots.

Did you even watch the game? Nobody is saying he played great (because the fact is nobody played well, at all), but he was far from the worst player on the field. Very very far from the worst. He got in a situation he was never going to gt us out of. He's not a heisman contending QB nor should you ever have expected him to be. He made some good passes this game and his teammates really let him down on a few of those. Probably had about 100-150 yards wiped out from penalties and drops.

Yep, he pretty much ran straight into a sack one play where the defender was blocked had he stayed in the pocket.

As it relates to Etling, this nails it...
He is not going to take the team on his shoulders and carry them to victory...
However, I do not think he is going to lose a game for us either..
I think we have all known this to be the case...
Our issues Saturday on the field were legion...

Pressured on 8 of 22 dropbacks. According to this board I thought he was a pressured on every play and that's why he sucked
I don't think Etling sucked personally. I thought he kind of fell apart in the 2nd half when things got away from the team...and for some reason we started throwing deep over and over again.
But, for the majority of the game, he made some good passes.
He's never going to be GREAT.

That's what winning teams/Coaches do... if one guy isn't getting the job done, you at least give the next guy the opportunity. That's for all positions, not just the QB.

The loss had nothing to do with Etling. However, I get it, If you don't know anything about football and you are looking for someone to blame...
Etling only completed 4 passes in the whole first half. I'm not saying he lost us the game but he certainly didn't help the team just like a lot of other positions. Overall, most of his completions came on the last drive of the fourth quarter when every single play was a pass. To bad we were already down 37-7.
The issue with Etling is if he is pressured then he struggles significantly to make the throws. We will need somebody to step up and make the throws under pressure or the offense will continue to be one demensional. I'm not saying Etling can't be the guy, but he did just realize that he needs to be a team leader which is baffling considering this is the 2nd season at QB.

Two people that will never be blamed is Danny Etling and Ed Orgeron.

There were also many plays where none of the receivers were anywhere close to open.

If a 5th year senior doesn't have it by now, He never will. Its just that simple.

Etling didn't suck. You can thank the OL, Wr, and DL for that . Not Danny

Yea, throwing JL into the fire before he was ready really worked out great for him.

At the end of the day Etling couldn't cut it at Purdue
Posted on 9/18/17 at 8:37 am to thunderbird1100
He threw just about every fly route out of bounds, I was at the game 7 rows up from the sideline and you could tell the receivers were getting frustrated. DE looked schizophrenic in the pocket.
