ESPN's college football post-spring Top 25 power rankings:

To achieve anything in this life we gotta start from the bottom, WE FINISHED .500 LAST SEASON AND BARELY WON THE GAMES WE WON OUTSIDE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND VANDY AND A LOT OF OUR RETURNING PLAYERS AREN'T EXPERIENCED PLUS WE HIRED A GAMBLE AT DC, makes total sense they don't think high of us, we'll prove em wrong and it will be glorious.

Ull at 16 is fake news. They will do well in sun belt but they would not beat any sec team short of a major upset. Fact.

Now, let's play a "what If" game.

What If both teams went undefeated?

ULL MIGHT break the Top 10 and go to a New Years 6 game with that preseason ranking. I mean, they play in the Sun Belt.

LSU, on the other hand, is likely #1 or #2 and in the playoff.

This is honestly an inconsequential topic starter. It means nothing.

over the years ive noticed they tend to not be very creative in their rankings and more or less tweak the way the season ended slightly. i think LSU will be good next year, and finish higher than 20.

ULL has a good coach, an easy schedule, and is building the program effectively. So no disrespect to them, but LSU will end up higher in the rankings.

What about Southeast La? Why haven't they taken the ULH moniker? Or the other school, what is it, Northwestern State of La? I get them confused with Northwestern. I'm not familiar with these LA schools, so, I just asking out of curiosity.

Because they didn't try to change their names.

Regardless of the reasons behind it, I believe the law states that any schools in the UL System changing their name have to adopt the "UL at" moniker. So if McNeese wanted to change their name, it would have to be "UL at Lake Charles". But, considering the UL System didn't even exist until 1996, well AFTER every one of the schools had been established. So by that fact alone, in my opinion, there is no one in that system that can claim the name "University of Louisiana". It's not like the LSU System that has a clear flagship.

Going to have to disagree with that. They were not better than Missouri. Perhaps Mississippi st. Though.

As somebody who follows recruiting of both schools rather closely. 2021 season will be a conundrum of sorts, Here's why.

Ul-Lafayette is returning a bunch of 5th and 6 yr seniors, because most of them won't go pro and some will eventually get an UFA contract but decided to come back for one more season. Ul-Lafayette had a few good classes in a row with loads of 3 stars a few years ago. I'm talking 16-20 three star players per class. All these players are coming back for a 4th or 5th year except the two that went to the NFL. That's right, only TWO players left for the league and the rest stayed.

LSU, and any of the top tier schools that recruit in the top 5 every year, get the best of the best so many of their players leave early. I get it that LSU has much more talent, but Ul-Lafayette will have significantly older players all over the field with much more experience that are not as talented, but can play.

With this in mind, I doubt Ull could beat LSU, even this year, but if there ever was a year for them to do it, 2021 would be it

ESPN has the Cajuns at 16 in their current rankings in the cited article. They have Texas at 22.

So that’s us 6 spots ahead of Texas.

We play Texas for our first game.

I’ll be surprise to see Vegas put us as the favorite considering the game is in Austin and Texas’s overall rated athletes vs ours.

But “what if” Cajuns somehow go 12-0, and LSU goes 10-2 or 9-3.

Bowl game matchup?

I guess that's possible, but LSU would have to be in the top 3 in the SEC and in the New Year's Six for that to happen.

I honestly believe if ULL is ranked that high to start the season and goes unbeaten, they are in the New Year's Six. They might only need to be in the Top 25 for that to happen if they are 12-0.

Look, for ANY team to go undefeated a shitload of great play plus luck each weekend has to happen.

Cajuns are ranked around Top 15 at the end of the season only if we go undefeated, or if we lose just the first game close vs Texas, and they finish the season Top 10.

As a Cajuns fan, I’m not going to use some preseason article to tell LSU fan we’re better than them. Vast majority of Cajuns fans are well aware of the talent gap of our 2-3 star athletes vs LSU’s 4-5 star, and we’re well aware our athletic budget is 1/5 the size of LSU’s.

But also, any LSU fan being all triggered by this ESPN preseason ranking needs to chill. Part of this is to get you all riled up.

LSU will be back to their top third of SEC form next year, but I think #1 or #2 might be optimistic. It could happen, but i dont think we have any reason to predict it now. If the starting QB is really great, if the offense and defensive schemes are highly effective, if another receiver steps up, if a LB or two steps up, etc we could maybe be #1 or 2.

Just a few too many ifs right now.

Because it would be like LSU-Eunice or LSU-Shreveport calling itself LSU. There is no “University of Louisiana.” It’s the University of Louisiana System and the school in Lafayette is the “University of Louisiana at Lafayette.” Call it “Louisiana-Lafayette”, call it “ULL”, but it’s not “Louisiana” or “UL”. Thank you.

This shite is stupid as hell. It’s obvious LSU is LSU. I don’t see what the big deal is if The university of Louisiana at Lafayette brands them self athletically as “Louisiana”. Don’t even try to argue that they aren’t the most notable and deserving school in the system. They have a right to use it. It’s so embarrassing and insecure when LSU fans act like this. Louisiana is too small of a state to have as much division as it has. They are a freaking G5 sunbelt team with no threat to LSU. Get a grip.

Enough is enough. The shite is behind out of control. Only in Louisiana would this be a thing. Have some damn pride in your state people.
