Why do you guys hate him for this.

1. He is digging panthers facility out.
2. He is telling the truth. Players should get paid.
3. He is posted and advertising LSU new facilities?

Hate the guy for whatever you want but what’s wrong with this?

If you are a panthers fan I would be upset too.

Seemed like a shot at Carolina and the NCAA, not LSU.

They can...but they can't play in the NCAA if they do that. And, if they aren't playing in the NCAA, they really aren't worth anything.

In other words, their value is almost wholly based on what the NCAA brings to the table.

They do get paid. They receive full scholarships. It says a lot about him and a lot of posters that the value of an education is minimized.

It’s a free college degree. The culture that sees no value in that....truly incredible. And we wonder why our society is riddled with crime and illiterates.

well there isn't money to pay everyone, pursuant to the law (Title 9)

THIS is the issue.

Sure there is enough money to pay the football players. There is enough to pay the football players quite a bit. And they certainly would have "earned" it as they are the primary profit generators at each school. However, you can't just pay the football players and no other athletes. And you can't pay the football players more than the other athletes. Title 9 litigation would ensue for years. The back up right fielder on the softball team would have to be paid the same as the All American defensive back. That money paid to her isn't going to be generated by her or her team. It's going to be generated (primarily) by the football program.

there is nothing incompatible about sports and university

Its a locker room for the players not the fans, so in a way, they are getting paid in directly for a luxury item to use for 3-5years to go along with free ed.

So since Eric is getting paid again, he can enjoy a shitty locker room in carolina.

Let players make money off their likeness like any other student can. The university provides enough for them, as someone earlier mentioned, room, board, food, tuition, books, tutor, and now a platform

Who are these entities that make billions that you refer to?

The schools make enough revenue to pay for it's athletic budget (in some cases) and give money back to the university (in very few cases).

You say "free labor" and ignore (intentionally) that it is "voluntary labor".

Olympic model solves the issue. Let all athletes profit from name and likeness. Also Eric should note former players donated to get this facility built. I’m sure he didn’t give a dime.

there really isn't even this, on the whole. MAYBE 25% of D1A programs could legit enact a plan to pay players (and it's a big maybe)

the only real way to pay players would be to create a super league outside of the NCAA, and even then, you'd still have the exact same issue (unpaid players for the other 95% of programs)

Not a shot at LSU. Lots of athletes support collegiate players getting compensated.
Hell, I think they should too just know that would be a slippery slope.

quit being a beta.

In the event a college athlete should make it to the next level, should LSU net some of their investment money back then? After all, in your scenario LSU invested in this young baw

Building all this is how the college can pay players. Cant give them straight cash but can give them all these other benefits that other college kids don't get.

Id like to see a developmental minor league football league option for people so we can put all this pay the players business to rest. If they don't realize, want, or appreciate what they're getting, let them go that route.

Baseball players are figuring it out more and more. Living the good life in college for 3 years is way more fun that riding a bus around the minor leagues, staying in cheap hotels, and playing in front of a handful of fans.

He wants his cake and eat too...Would he take less money to have a locker room like this...you pay the players then you will have concrete floor locker rooms...

The school is going above and beyond to make this the best experience they will ever have along with free stuff...I am against paying players due to the fact that they are already get special treatment compared to a regular student...College football is the gateway/opportunity for them to make there money either in the next level or with the education they get...and to think they get this all for free....paying players is just a can of worms you do not want to open
