if someone else is installing the spread, what is Ensminger here for?

Ensminger is going to have to accept that Brady is a better play caller than he is for this to work.

No he just needs to accept that Brady is a capable play caller.

O didn’t say that E would go to Brady for the next play every time, just that Joe would have the next play ready if E wants it.

Idk how many of y’all have coached before but coaches and players both make suggestions to the play caller throughout the game. It’s the play callers job to balance suggestions with executing the game plan.

If Joe has a play that he thinks will work or us properly set up, I’m sure he will communicate that to E.

Like others have said, this experiment won’t come to a head until there is a breakdown and then we will see who has confidence in who.

Of course they do but I don't think everyone expected LSU to be the place to learn on the job.

Pretty sure he learned a lot on the Saints the last 2 years, otherwise we wouldn't have been confident enough to hire him and let him mostly take over the offense. It's not like he was a GA here for a year or two then we promoted him, he legitimately learned from one of the best offenses in the NFL for a few years. I'd rather us take at least that approach than the Meatball approach.

So they had never actually called plays before

Nope, but they did have more experience than a gofer. They also took on the role at a program that hadn't won a NC in decades and was considered second-tier.

LSU is and has been for at least 6 decades a product of IVY LEAGUE coaching. This since the inception of the American college football's grid of modernized protective equipment, rules modifications (post President Teddy Roosevelt's decree) and a unique American sport which is a outgrowth of European RUGBY.

The spread offense is a precision based attacking style based on coordinated skill.

IT REQUIRES HIGH VELOCITY OR SPEED. (MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY)

I refer interested parties to ASU vs LSU 2005.
LSU vs Arizona St (Sept. 10, 2005)-LSUsportsradio Call
ASU does "high velocity" style like a pro.

This has got to be some type of joke here huh?

I actually agree with Lester on this one. That's rare, but shite happens.

How will this work exactly?

Joe will have the play ready.
Steve will approve of the play.
O will approve of the play that Steve approved?

It's football season again!!!!!

The funny thing is that I tend to lean towards the opinion that the offense will be much more improved this season, and I think Brady will prove to be a huge hire. I still can't help but to laugh at the hypocrisy of the people who were making certain arguments when Ensminger was hired, and then now after Brady was hired. Those coaches that they put on insanely high pedistools are now saying the things the other side have said all along, and now they are trying to crawfish out of what they have been saying. They are all stuck now, and it's funny to watch, even though I tend to share their opinions now.

Based on what ? Being fired or now essentially demoted every time he’s been one?

I think we should promote Ensminger to head coach, Brady to OC, and demote O back to DL coach where he can recruit the lines and can let Meatball go.

I’ve been critical of E’s abilities but he absolutely loves LSU and wants what’s best for LSU.

Everything people say about O is absolutely true of Es

He’s one of us.
This is his dream job
He loves LSU

I would never blame Steve for being put into a position he maybe didn’t really want and for being objectively under-qualified for it.

It was almost kind of sad when he cracked the joke about hiring Brady was the worst thing he's ever done.

That is a man that is clearly very comfortable with his lot in life that he can make a joke about the guy he is grooming to be his replacement.

I think the people who don't understand why Ensminger getting praise in this thread need to understand it's not his coaching acument getting him showered with praise here, but his integrity and character as a man. I will applaud that.

Having said that, man the offense really better show some improvement this year.

Let’s hope those to aren’t squabbling about play calling in the booth or Ensminger is indecisive about the play suggested by Brady at critical times and this causes us to get the play in late and penalties/ timeouts and busted plays.

We have seen this kinda stuff before when more than one person has input into the play calling.

If it doesn't the man who will be cast with all of the blame, and who will be left on the chopping block, will be the one who cares most about the LSU program.
