Ed will deliberately not declare a leader in the QB derby until August.

Even though it will be obvious to him and everyone else that there is a leader coming out of the spring, he will not say it, because he wants to keep the 2 and/or 3 guy from transferring.
Will it work?
Will it work?

I feel like collegiate transferring has gotten out of hand. Just saw ESPN give a bulletin that Pitt has 8 players transferring because of a coaching change. Pick a school based on the school and the coach. Not a fan of people jumping ship just because their coach left.

It's sad that it has to be done that way to keep a freshman or sophomore from leaving. These kids are so shortsighted to not realize that you're just jumping from one spot where there is competition to another spot where there is competition. But in the second place, you're behind the learning curve and will have to sit for a year.
Have some fricking patience and improve your game.

Me personally, I'd be ok with naming a starter prior to each game when we have first year starters.
If it takes a year of competition to prove who deserves it, then take a year to to prove it.
It is about results.

I don't get why it is so automatic that we lose one of our two good QB's just because one gets beat out, while other schools often have multiple good QB's, none of whom transfer.
Why is it just a given here that either Narcisse or Brennan is going to transfer?

The way prep leagues and recruiting are now, almost every kid who gets a scholarship to a major program believes (and is probably told by many coaches) that they're the best and the kids don't have the maturity to really look at themselves and realize they need to improve for the college game. Similar to how so many kids jump early and don't get drafted until like the 6th or 7th round if they get drafted at all. Prime example, Malachi Dupre.
ETA: You look at recruiting back in the day when you had guys like Archie Manning and what not and they were basically treated/worked like shite until they proved they were otherwise and they all acted like it was the greatest blessing on earth to just get a chance to make the team.

He needs to name a starter sometime in the spring. New QB, new linemen, new offense...they will need time to gel. Miami will be pinning they're ears back on 9/2. We need to be ready

The backup QB is one unfortunate injury from being the starter. He should not leave.

The players that are in practice every day know who the starter is. Ex players say this on TV and radio every year. There is no reason for the coach to come out and announce it to the public. The coaches want the pressure of competition on the players to see how they handle that pressure.

This may be the most useless thread of all time.

I hate O but he’s doing the right thing with the QB’s right now. Let’s see how he manages them during the season.

That's what basically everybody does now...

I don't really see why any would transfer even if they aren't the starter.
Brennan hasn't really done anything so whoever the backup is, it's likely they are gonna play.

So Ed is doing the same thing every coach does with two young QBs fighting for the job

When you win and are in the playoff picture, players seem to be more willing to stick it out as the second string.
So we have to win, obviously. That means beating Bama and UGA this year.
