But he'll name a starting RB although none of the group has been close to being considered as a starter until this year.

That’s a very naive way to look at it.

The school isn’t going to the HS player and forming a relationship. It’s the coaches.

Besides, they are (supposedly) student athletes. They should be able to transfer just like other students.

I don't get why it is so automatic that we lose one of our two good QB's

In fairness, we may have 2 good QBs, we may have ZERO

He needs to name a starter sometime in the spring

No he doesn’t. I would agree that when actual game prep for Miami starts there should be a clear starter. Really none reason to name one sooner than that.

ETA: You look at recruiting back in the day when you had guys like Archie Manning and what not and they were basically treated/worked like shite until they proved they were otherwise and they all acted like it was the greatest blessing on earth to just get a chance to make the team.

you don't even need to go that far back. Matt Flynn had to wait his turn behind a guy who has become synonymous with "NFL bust" , although to be fair Jamarcus Russel had a very successful college career.

Our fans continue to think the game is played on a message board. Get a grip on reality; it will be obvious to the players by then even if it isn’t publicly announced so you can talk about it on tigerdropongs

That makes absolutely no sense. You pick a coach that runs an offense or defense that caters to your strengths. If a pocket passer goes to play for a coach with that type of offense and he gets fired and the new coach runs a spread it doesn't make sense for him to hang around.

Dumb question. Pretty sure the starter won't decline the honor.

What possibly is to gain be saying the starter now? I'm sure O chewed SE"s arse out for saying that last month

He shouldn't name a starter until game one. Even in the game he should try out both QBs to see how they operate. Do it over the first couple of weeks and find your true starter.

Well, since he already said he probably won’t name a starter until fall camp it’s a pretty safe bet he won’t.
