Excellent....With the way he left here I wish she would take it all.

The X Wife's new boyfriend should be very happy with the ruling. Could mean a new Corvette or Harley Davidson as his new toys. I've seen that many times in my lifetime.

But he could have been fired for cause and not have been paid anything, so it wasn't earned until termination agreement was signed (in my accounting, non-legal mind).
But he wasn't fired for cause. He was fired without cause and the liquidated damages in that instance were guaranteed.

The tax implications is what gets me.
Coach O should've gone to Bob Lowe first Bob literally writes the book on divorce. Kelly went with a primary and almost sole practitioner of family law. Coach went with someone who has a more diverse practice.
Almost like a heart doctor working on your brain to a certain extent. The law has become as specialized as medicine.
What really doesn't make sense is that she doesn't have to share in the taxes. She gets that half tax free while he foots that bill.

That seems odd. Where are you seeing that?

And now he has to pay his team of attorneys out of that 2.2mill. Left with almost nothing of his 17mill buyout.
Roughly he will owe $500k to his attorneys. Rough. Divorce is not the answer lol

Was his ex-wife getting half of all of his paychecks while he was coaching in 2020 and 2021?
If the contract was guaranteed, wouldn't she have been entitled to those payments, in addition to the buyout money, after he was fired?
Maybe she was and I just don't know. Divorce just seems messy as hell, lol.

Wow.
Lots of incorrect stuff to unpack.
I know Ed’s lawyer, brilliant guy. Did you know if the facts are contra to what the law says you could have Abraham Lincoln advocating for you and you are going to lose.
Just like the buyout money is a community asset, taxes owed are a community obligation (debt). If Ed paid taxes on the entire amount, he will get a credit offset against her owed portion. If he didn’t she pays taxes on her portion.

I suppose you could say that his legal Hail Mary fell incomplete.
I'll see myself out now.

Ponamsky is still following him around like a puppy when he was on Pardon my Take the other day. Time to dust off the binder and get back to the grind. That money has been blown in 30A and Miami.

It’s an asinine decision.

I’m going out on a limb and assuming that he hasn’t exactly been Warren Buffet with his money. Only a matter of time before one of his old assistant coaching buddies hires him as a recruiting coordinator or position coach and he starts recruiting against LSU. Will be awkward to say the least. Maybe Kiffen or Sark?
The guy does not want to work. That was clear by halftime of the Mississippi State game in 2020. He wanted to sit on his arse and spend his millions. He doesn't have those millions any longer, and he owes some more millions.
He's going to get a job to pay his ex-wife. He's not going to be any more motivated than he was in 2020.
I wouldn't worry about him recruiting against us.

Jokes on her, he spent it all.

Everyone keeps acting like LSU paid him all of this in a lump sum 3.5 years ago. Reality is he was terminated in December 2021. He had 5 years left on the contract and was owed $17 million in guarantees when fired. LSU has the right to spread out the payments over twice the length of the remaining contract, so 8 years.
Reality is that Ed hasn't even gotten half of that $17 million actually paid to him yet, so claiming he paid taxes on all of it already is absurd.
He'll owe her half of what he got so far to be paid to her by him and then they will split the remainder as the rest is paid out through 2031 if my math is right.
He's not in some huge debt hole unless he borrowed against those future payouts.

Phucquing absurd holding. Why get married let alone have children. Men get boned every time.

Thats why I spend my money on hookers and blow. Its cheap and effective.
Posted on 9/5/25 at 2:01 pm to Techdave
He’s either spent the money, borrowed against future receipts, or both.

25% of what is owed is paid at termination.
