re: Ed Ingram: We didn’t know what to do or who the block

We have a head coach making $8 million per year and a starting offensive linemen just said the following:
Absolutely unreal.
quote:
"There were times that we didn't know what to do or we didn't block the right person"
Absolutely unreal.

Also said the OL was tired and not in shape.
We are in serious trouble.

Everyone just relax, Coach O just held another extensive meeting and they all agreed we need to get better!

So what the frick is Moffitt doing if everyone is still out of shape? Lol can we please wipe the program clean and start fresh?
Moffitt is so overrated it’s not even funny. You can look at our linemen and they look like they’d be lined up for the buffet at Piccadilly on a Sunday after church, not playing football at LSU. How many linemen are we having issues with not getting in shape on both sides of the ball? Kardell, Valentine, etc. Way too many guys severely overweight year in and year out. That’s gotta fall on S&C at some point
It’s easy to get guys like Fournette or Stingley in shape considering they’ve been chiseled out of stone since they were 6 years old, but how many guys who aren’t genetically gifted, which is a really small amount of 4 and 5 star prospects in the first place, are improving significantly? He earns his money on guys like Kardell he’s failing miserably

I foresee a ping pong match of coaches and players throwing each other under the bus if things don’t improve quickly.
The comment almost certainly was a direct shot at coaching. No excuse to not be conditioned, absolutely none. Also, how much could have possibly changed from Gregg to Davis as far as blocking assignments or calling out assignments? I know Davis came in late but an entire fall camp was completed, how is none of the coaching sinking in?

Coaching
I think it has to be a bit of both. Either the line isn't calling out who they need to block or the qb isn't telling them where he needs them to block...or they don't know. As for coaching maybe they should've realized the team wasn't communicating and simplified the calls by using diff formation or plays

is this a players or coaches issue?
It's him trying to relay to the outside world that our coaches are complete retards, without directly saying it and losing his scholarship.

I figure you simplify it enough for them to function in the game and pick more of it up along the way with practice during the season.
I agree...but I also think they had to have been prepared to know their assignments. It is possible they didn't execute very well. The most baffling to me was the run blocking

My only reaction is just wow…
Yup. It's turning into a dumpster fire if it's not already one.
The good news is we have 2 cupcakes up next. That will give the players some confidence. Winning will help them tremendously.

I’m ready to clean house and start over

Wow. How unacceptable is this? Is there no leadership on the team to say frick this, let's run.

Disappointing, but understandable.

"End of the day, we've just got to focus on our technique. I think a lot of us were tired and out of shape."
Absolutely unacceptable. This staff should be embarrassed.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but the blocking scheme and protection calls shouldn’t change based on the OL coach, correct? The schemes should be part of the offense that was installed over the spring. OL shouldn’t be learning an entirely new playbook just because the position coach is new.

#LSU Ed Ingram on new offensive line coach Brad Davis replacing James Cregg in early June. Ingram would've liked a little more time to get adapted.
When 3 months isn't enough time to figure out if you step left or step right. SMH

Can you imagine being Max Johnson and hearing this BS???

Maybe next time the medical staff will reconsider sitting guys out for every little nagging injury. You go through fall camp to get in playing shape for the season.
The new director of sports medicine’s strategy isn’t working. I don’t know why Ed and the coaching staff thought things would be all good if they just brought back guys for game week.

They are running a zone run block scheme, and let me tell you, it isn't that fricking complicated. It isn't like they are running the Wing-T with lineman that pull while others block back down the other way.
The most complicated run play used was a counter, and it isn't rocket science. Middle school teams run it on a regular basis.
The fact that they don't know who to block is scary. Learning the scheme as an OL is simple. What's difficult is maintaining your technique and strength.

For being the highest rated lineman we have, with NFL potential, he was a major issue on the line Saturday. Him making these statements seem to be try to take the blame off of himself. He has been here long enough and played enough to know who to block and what it takes to be in shape.
Coaching can't fix attitude. They said last year's team lacked leadership, he is supposed to be one of the leaders of his position group.
What this team lacks as a whole is accountability on the players and the coaches. We have the same problems as last year because this has not been addressed.
