A line of storms was developing at mid-afternoon Friday from Holdrege southwest into Kansas, and the National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for much of eastern Nebraska, including Lincoln.

A severe thunderstorm watch also was in effect for the Hastings-Kearney-Grand Island area. A severe thunderstorm with large hail was near Holdrege before 4 p.m.

In eastern Nebraska, thunderstorms are likely after 7 p.m. At 3 p.m., the weather service said the threat of severe weather was greatest north of Lincoln.

The tornado watch, which stretches from Lancaster County north to the South Dakota border, was in effect until 10 p.m.

From Reed Timmer:

quote:

Storms moving from east/northeast of Grand Island area could have enhanced tornado potential as they move east into this area of higher effective helicity or wind shear.

This includes particularly the Columbus to Omaha areas, later in evening for OMA.

I was sitting in the stands they had chairs set up outside and everything, than right before it started, I see all this commotion on the field. I say to myself yep here comes the rain, I hope I stay dry.

I am not surprised . That area can have snow one day and 6 days later 100 degree weather and 2 days later tornados. Nebraska, Kansas and okla get crazy weather in June and July
