Especially after seeing LL launch himself like a missile into the pile.

Side Note: That pic was pretty impressive!

LSU has been to the CWS many, many times. This team hasn't. They have been grinding for months, living up to immense expectations and now they are at the doorstep for winning it all. They have unfinished business in Omaha. I would be in the middle of that pile too!

This has to be the worst ritual after a big win. Didn't we lose a player one year after being injured in the dogpile? The coach should do away with this and find another way to celebrate. I have been on teams that did this and I never participated. And before I get anyfeedback on this....no, I have never been on team that went to Omaha.

FWIW steve, I understand where you are coming from and see your point. Especially after Mestepey. However, these are kids and they are excited. This is the biggest thing that has ever happened to many of them. Like I said, these young men have lived up to expectations and handled the pressure. Time to have a little release. Time to celebrate.

+1

This team has had the expectations of winning it all in Omaha all year long. Anything less than making it to Omaha would be a great disappointment. After a year of working their butts off to get back to Omaha, they have achieved it. It should be celebrated. They will be refocused in a week and ready to win it all.

Ok each team is different from year to year. If the Celtics go to the Finals they should not celebrate because they have a storied history and it is all for naught unless they win the championship.

Nice article but please point out where the coaches told them not to dogpile after the regional.

Yes, but it was only our number one starting pitcher. It's much more important to do whatever you feel like doing based on the emotion of the moment than to think even a little bit about what lies ahead.

By the way, that team went two and out in Omaha.

Before you start flaming me, let me be clear: I don't have a major problem with THIS team dogpiling after winning the SR. I think beating Rice in two games (even in the Box) is quite an achievement, and I feel like this team has the right attitude about it. And the Maneiri quote about "unfinished business" after the regional effectively said that a dogpile after the SR was OK. I just think I would have been particularly impressed if the team had decided on their own that they were only willing to dogpile in Omaha.

“This victory means everything to us — it does, obviously,” LSU coach Paul Mainieri said. “But we know there’s unfinished business. This is first part of a two-week sequence. Next weekend is the championship you want.”

It's there -- you have to read between the lines. It's not easy for some people. Don't feel too bad if you can't figure it out.

whoever compared cutting down the nets when you get to the final 4 to the dogpile when you get to the CWS thanks for the laugh.

well, maybe I'm getting old. I hate the dogpiling unless it is on the last day in Omaha.

UTexas never dogpiles. Part of the been-there mentality of the "only one end goal that matters" attitude. Not to mention the chance for injury, imo.

yes, debbie downer I am.

Not to say there are occasions for exceptions. LSU beating #1 A&M on their home field in the '89 regional being one.
