Rivals ranked them as the #2 unit in the SEC.
LINK

Also the word from yesterday's practice was that the young linebackers are developing nicely and showing promise(Tigerbait). Hatcher, one of three seniors in the unit, is the wildcard. Baker is solid and will likely be All-SEC. Francios is...a senior.

The point, though, is that linebacker is supposed to be our big weakness (could argue DT depth), but if the unit turns out to be solid, our D could be very good.

The middle of our d seams kind of soft, but I have faith!

When you say soft dreaux do you mean play soft or its just our supposed weak spot?
if you think they play soft, I would have to disagree.

Just curious to what you meant.

rivals also has mo claiborne at 2nd team. if you read their explanations for the unit rankings it seems like one dude going off of speculation he's heard and not heard... very unreliable.

LSU has some depth at LB'er and I think is an underrated part of out team, I think they will play well this year, someone will step up and be the guy!!

I do believe LSU will have great LB play..Losing KS11 is key, but John Chavis is one of the best LB coaches around. LB play should be solid as long as Chief is around..

2. Alabama: There is no one as good as Marcell Dareus, who turned pro early, but this is a solid group with good depth.

Bama doesn't have depth on the Defensive Line. BTW, this article contradicts itself. LSU ranks 10 in off backfield because of "there's talent but a lack of experience at RB", but Bama is 2 on Def Line with limited gametime experience and 2 DL players getting cut or suspended. The media love affair with Bama is hilarious. Can't wait until they lose 3 again....

1. How the he'll does two writers pick Donta Hightower as the best player in the league? Alshon Jeffery, Marcus Lattimore, etc. He wasn't even one of the best LBs last year.

2. How in the hell does Bama have the third best backfield with no returning qb? MSU, UT have both qb and RB

3. Sophomore DJ Fluker is a 1st team RT? Lmao, about the media bias towards Bama.

4. Three DBs are first team for Bama.

What a bull crap list.

Anyone that ranks LSU's lb play right now is just speculating. Nobody really knows. There are reasons to be optimistic there are reasons to be pessimistic. Anyone that thinks they know... doesn't.

The Alabama love fear is unbelievable. Alabama could have zero returning starters and they would still be putting everyone on the first team.

Production-wise, I would rank UT's Rogers and Hunter ahead of us. They are ranked #9 and we are #3.

I would be highly surprised if our LB corp ended up as the second best. I think they are the weakness of the defense(and have been for awhile).

Baker is the only one with LB XP.... but we have had solid LBs in the past and expect the same this year... solid but not great

With No. 11 gone, LSU's LBs immediately improve. No LB should ever run away from tackling Tebow.

I think Baker is a stud, expecially when they blitz him, but until Fracois of Hatcher show me that they can tackle and don't miss their assignments I will remain skeptical of our LB corps.
