This is a new wave of fans. Pre 2003 tiger stadium was always packed! I mean packed for pretty much all games. With our successes over the past decade we now have a fan base that feels entitled and thus unless we are #1 or playing a top 10 team they are going to be disinterested or discouraged... I'm happy with all of or success however I wish the fans passion could return to the pre 2000 frenzy it was.

quote:That's a good one! They take in the most information because it's there (watch every game, try to follow threads on here and the like, so they think they understand but have no idea why the things are the way they are or the history and also don't consider the future. (also kind of like women)
Lsu fans are the sports equivalent to what is referred to as "low information voters" in the political arena

No but I think we have one of the largest outlets (Tigerdroppings) for a minority of the fanbase that are fair-weather, which makes it appear that all of our fanbase is such.

Yep. And they're called sunshine pumpers.
I'm convinced that my fellow negatigers and I are the only clear thinking posters on this site.

HELL NO, U ON DRUGS? Lsu fans are great, we bitch when they don't play well but over all we totally back the team. I live in North Al. & I wear my LSU hat every day except Sun. win or lose. When bama loses they run under a log like a big catfish until they beat a team like Kent St.

Florida has a much larger fair-weather fan base.

This. We have some DEEPLY 'low information' fans that are also absolutely determined to be heard. You give them a place like the rant and they're like a drunk sorostitute on a Bourbon St balcony. They WILL be showing their arse and there's no way you could stop it in a million years.

I'm not sure what you're describing is "fair weather"...or at least how I understand it.
To me fair weather describes those who identify themselves as fans only when the team is winning, but don't show any affiliation when the team is losing.
That's not to say that LSU doesn't have an issue with a vocal segment if the fanbase that is "quick to turn on the coach" when things are going bad....and it may be worse than some other schools, though probably not as bad as we think because this is what we are most exposed to.

In the world? No.
A few fan bases more fair weather than LSU:
Juventus
Tokyo Giants
Miami Hurricanes
FC Beijing
Iran National Team

I think y'all are defining fair weather fan differently than me. LSU fans might be the whiniest, bitchiest fanbase in sports but the deep passion is always there. When I think fair weather fan, I think S Cal, where if they're not ranked in the top 5 their fans don't even know its football season.

I think this is pretty much it. I know true fair weather fans who don't even get mad when LSU/Saints lose because it really doesnt even cross their minds.
Others talk negative as a way of venting their frustrations. But you know they'll be tuned into the game every Saturday/Sunday.

I think some of you are morbidly reflecting on the LSU fanbase. Are we bitchy? Yes. Do we jump to conclusions and step on the cliff a little too soon? Absolutely.
Is this uncommon with any other comparable big name program's fanbase? Not at all.
We are not as terminally unique from the rest of the big name college programs as some of you would like to think.

I don't lose any sleep over it, then I wake up a LSU fan and don't give two fricks what the guy next to me thinks.
Every team with success has the same group of fans, wouldn't put too much thought into them.

Best in the world when things go well and the worst when they don't. It kind of goes hand in hand.
