This place is toxic. The answer is yes.
No shite.
We all thought it was bad when les miles lost a game.
It's really pathetic.

I'm actually looking forward to going into a season with low expectations
I wonder how many fans honestly have "settled" for this perspective since we now have our new coach?

Looking at the clueless look on O's face during the only 2 decent teams he coached against this year, I would say no way.

We go to Bama, Florida, and Tennessee. Combined, they lost 1 home game this year.
@Bama, Arkansas, @Tennessee, Aggie is another brutal November.

We have a better chance at going 7-5 than making the CFP

No.
Five SEC road games. Lots of talented players leaving.
Unproven (that's being kind) new head coach.
There is no realistic chance.

I am going to say no just because we will lose about 26 players this year. Fortunately they are not all starters but probably will lose about half the two deep lineup.

For all the O haters answer is no. For all the LSU fans of course there is a shot. Talent abounds still for this team in '17. '18 concerns me as we will have a huge number of seniors and several draft eligible juniors leaving. Huge turn over but still plenty of talent

Good point about Aranda, but Wisconsin plays a much weaker schedule in the Big 10 than LSU does so everything is relative. His defensive #'s wouldn't have been as good if he had to play Bama, A&M, UF, every year at Winsconsin.

We have a gauntlet of a schedule, but anything is possible.

Come on and just say it you are a bama fan

If QB play is excellent, defense can replace its best 2-3 guys without a drop off. Yes
This team was a QB away from the playoffs this year.
1 more second we beat Auburn
1 more yard we beat Florida
1 less INT we beat Wisconsin
Any type of a passing game we score on Alabama.
10-1 we in the playoffs.
People can say what they want, this is reality.

this is who we lose not counting LF and Jamal and possible a few more....

I assume you mean "what is the likelihood LSU makes the playoff next year." To do that LSU cannot lose more than 2 games but realistically, just 1. Theoretically, LSU could make the playoff still losing to Bama but it's been 5 years since we've had less than 3 losses.
Therefore, I say the likelihood that LSU makes the playoff next year is less than 2%.

Absolutely -- and this is coming from someone who doesn't like the Ogeron hire.
Outside of Bama on the road, the schedule isn't overwhelmingly daunting. Is there a home game on there that LSU has no shot of winning? On the road, Florida is talented, but I don't think they are any more talented than LSU. Ole Miss? Tenn with some key losses?
Outside of Poccic, LSU returns a ton on offense. Yes, you'd love to have LF back, but I think it is very clear that Guice is every bit the playmaker Fournette was. The OL has to get better, but there is a lot of experience coming back. LSU isn't short on WRs, and who knows what those guys can do. It's not like the former regime did a whole hell of a lot to get those guys in spots to be consistent play makers.
You lose much more on defense, but LSU's strength could be at the most important spot on defense, the D-line. A dominant D-line makes everyone else behind them that much better. LSU will miss Adams and White, but if there is ANY position in which LSU stockpiles talent, it's DB. They probably won't be able to replace Beckwith right away. But if the DL is great, you probably don't need someone as good as Beckwith behind them. Finally, with Aranda it's hard to imagine LSU's defense still won't be good. Even if they take a slight step back with the personnel losses, assuming LSU is better offensively, then the defense should be more than good enough to compete
They still have to knock off Bama, which is no small feat. However, even for a pessimist such as myself, I can see there is A LOT to be optimistic about next season.

Of course, BUT not without getting more LB and OL that can contribute right away

In addition to the brutal SEC West, our East games are very tough and our first game is no pushover.
BYU (neutral site)
at Florida
at Tennessee

Until we prove that we can beat Bama, it will always be a roadblock to us making the playoffs. I don't see the team being that much better next year, so we're looking at another 2-4 loss year which leaves us on the outside looking in.

Why not? With the defense being solid it really comes down to offense. The right qb could put them in the discussion.
