CPM has 7 more years. Cannizaro will be long gone, and a head coach some where

Why would a program like LSU hire someone who has never done anything just to save relocation costs?

I've been wanting to ask Skip and Smoke that question...

How many times in the history of sports has it been a good hire?

in college baseball currentlyoff the top of my head:
Mike Martin - FSU
Josh Holliday - OSU (was an assistant for OSU, then had several other assistant jobs before being named HC)
Dan Heefner - Dallas Baptist
Chad Holbrook - USC (hasn't made it to Omaha yet, but we'll see on him)
Blake Dean - UNO - has done a great job so far

Brad Stevens worked out for Butler in basketball

Nah, we are a premier program. While he is a good coach, you don't give a top program to an unknown.

Using Jimbo Fisher is no comparison. Look at how many yrs he was a DC and/or position coach at numerous major universities before getting the chance to be a HC. Andy has exactly 2 yrs coaching experience after this past season. Andy's time will come. Not yet, however.

Well I don't see Mainieri retiring next year either. I could easily see him coaching here 5+ more seasons. If AC is still on staff at that point, I think we're having a different conversation.

LSU should hire Cliff Godwin when CPM retires.

He was a great assistant at LSU and has taken ECU to the postseason multiple times.

AC needs to go be a head coach somewhere. I don't know if he will get good HC experience somewhere in enough time to take over for CPM in 5-7 years

Maybe, but only if he leaves, takes a job at a smaller school, has lots of success up until the time PM retires.

Didn't know he was ever a DC.

While this is true, Skip had coached HS. I remember it like yesterday when Skip called the hidden ball trick as an assistant for Miami.
That was a different time and Miami was the BEST program at that time so getting an assistant with his experience was something normal. Broadhead was a GREAT AD.

PM will be there until he is ready to retire, which could be a long time from now. AC will get a HC job somewhere way before PM retires.

Smoke was head coach at ULM for several years before returning to LSU as head coach in waiting.

Not to mention lsu's program was at a much different level when they hired skip. Cannizaro likely wont be here after next year. Hopefully he has success at his head coaching stop and then he could be considered in a few years
