This will be my new sig. quote. Just a brilliant reason on why to not like Miles.
A few corollaries:
"He usually has to rely on decent quarterback play to have any passing game."
"He has to rely on great special teams and defense play to win big games."
"He needs transportation to get to work on time."

Their offense was pretty predictable.
Their offense had DMAC Felix Jones and Peyton hillis. Our top 2 d tackles were out and our d line depth was shaky after that. That makes it tough to stop 3 NFL backs. I dont know how you arent getting that concept.

I think this is a concern for a lot of people. He's had several teams that were talented enough to win the SEC, yet he's only done it once. Mack Brown faced the same criticism at Texas.
That, along with the fact his teams have a tendency to look sloppy and ill-prepared at times, not to mention the clock management issues that seem to occur every year.

You realize that you just defined what a great coach does? He surrounds himself with good coaches and great talent. That means: A: good coaches want to work for him. They realize they will win games, develop, advance their careers, and even enjoy their boss. B: great players want to play for him. They realize they will win games, get to play, develop, have a shot at the NFL, and enjoy playing for him. That seems like a recipe for a successful program, rather than some offensive or defensive guru who has success because of schemes at times but cannot do the other head coaching jobs.
THIS. But even moreso, the coaches and players don't just want to work/play for a great coach, they want to do their best and win.
So, IMO, even having good coaches and players isn't enough at this level, you also have to motivate them and direct their focus and energy.

Actually, him and Mac are very similar. Both clock management problems as well. Very good comparison.

If you're not sold on Les Miles at this point in his tenure at LSU, then you're not a real LSU fan.
He is the best possible coach for LSU right now.

At what point were they successful with mediocre players and coaches?

You mean the team that sports BCSNC rings on their fingers???
If you followed LSU in 06 and watched the LSU vs. Fla game, you would know it was the play on the field that cost us another shot at the BCS a hell of a lot more than anything a coach did on the sidelines. imo

You just brilliantly summed up this entire thread.

Very true, the players cost us that game, while Coaching was a big reason we lost to Auburn that year

Leach and Tubbs had some serious talent over the years. Brian Kelly is a fricking bum.

He's won everywhere he's been, he's in year 2 at Notre Dame, hardly a bum

I couldn't disagree more. You don't have to be a Les Miles fan to an real LSU fan.
