You realize that you just defined what a great coach does?
He surrounds himself with good coaches and great talent. That means:
A: good coaches want to work for him. They realize they will win games, develop, advance their careers, and even enjoy their boss.
B: great players want to play for him. They realize they will win games, get to play, develop, have a shot at the NFL, and enjoy playing for him.

That seems like a recipe for a successful program, rather than some offensive or defensive guru who has success because of schemes at times but cannot do the other head coaching jobs.

Just curious if there's a few stragglers left.

I still do not like to hear him speak to the media. Feels like a waste of time as he never gives any useful information and repeats the same 10 words over and over.
I often envy other schools when I hear their coaches speak but I'll take wins over PR skills.
SO, I like him but wish he'd just stop talking to the media.

I wish people would take a step back and look at the 07 team objectively. Les gets some heat over the two losses. However. The strength of that team was the defense the d line in particular. Against South carolina the 4th? game of the year we lost charles alexander for the season. He was never the same after that. Flynn was kinda nicked up against UK however we still shoulda won. Then auburn chop blocks dorsey and he wasnt the same the rest of the season till the bowl game. From Auburn on the defense and the line in particular looked bad. We had a lot of injuries that year> Early was in and out of the line up. Alexander gone. Dorsey played on one leg. Flynn had ankle issues that affected his footwork and therefore some velocity and finally sat out of the SEC CG. The guys who made us a preseason favorite for the NC game were at 75% or below.

To win a NC you have to have three things-talent, no injuries, luck.

Miles was more worried about Scott outshining Hester than getting a win. Period.

Do you mean that in a good or bad way?

Every time he gets into this situation, it seems to be a coin flip. I think it's just a natural result of Miles football: attempting to control the game with the run and stout D. That doesn't usually leave much margin of error against the more elite teams, putting you into these situations.

Still, I would not classify his late game clock management as one of his strengths.

This will be my new sig. quote.

Just a brilliant reason on why to not like Miles.

I honestly will never understand how anyone could sit scott in that game. Scott was a monster that game. Whether it was Porter Crowton Miles I would just like to hear the explanation on that one. That was a big coaching screw up

I've said for years miles plays favorites now watching Lee play havn't you asked why was jj starting?
It's not favorites, it's stability, consistency and predictability (the good kind, not the bad). It's for the team as a whole as well as the QBs. They (the QBs) need to feel like they have some room for reasonable mistakes without getting shitcanned; no one performs well with constant paranoia. And the offense also responds better with one identifiable leader.

It's pure management/group dynamics philosophy and CLM is very wise for taking that position, even though it gets frustrating.

Being the only 2 loss team to win it, yes, we had much luck
Also, every team has injuries

So the logic here is that he can't lose less than two games just because he's never done it before?
If Leslie couldn't lose fewer than 2 games with the 2006 and 2007 UNBELIEVABLY LOADED teams, I don't see him doing it with this team.

I'm confused. You seem to support Miles for sticking with JJ, yet your post basically condemned what he did last year playing 2 qbs

And teams that have major injuries to key players 99% of the time dont win an NC.

Arky shoulda been favored going into our game. They had 3 nfl starters going up a line of al woods marlon favorite kirsten pittman and tyson jackson lol Not hard to neutralize one guy there

Dude, Arkansas was not good that year. Their defense was shite. Their offense was pretty predictable.

Can you identify for me a coach in NCAAFBS football who was successful and was surrounded by mediocre coaches and players?
