Exactly. ...And the fact that the probability that door number 3 happens isn't zero is maddening.

How would the fan base respond if we promoted Aranda? Wouldn’t Aranda be partly to blame if Coach O does indeed fail?
This is LSU. No matter what happens, part of the fan base will be happy as clams while the other is having a fit. Then as the season has its ebbs and flows, whichever side feels they have the upper hand at that moment will be the most vocal, dominating the TD conversation. This is what maintains this boards ability to do insane 180 degree flip flops in outlook from week to week.

I do too

What the frick has this shrimp boat captain in white rubber boots done to make you optimistic other than drive it further into the ground than Les Miles last few years here? The SEC gets better around us while LSU gets worse. It's definitely the beginning of being a true dumpster fire program. The nose dive is real and you're going to see it this upcoming season.

LSU's administration is so broken right now it's pathetic. They're obsessed with keeping coaches which is why Aranda has the HCIW tag now. I love him but damn, really? LSU is placing HCIW tags on a complete mystery now rather than going out to get someone who's established as a HC? That's what we've fallen to. They're saving Orgeron's arse by keeping Aranda here ensuring at least mediocre seasons due to defense. I really do believe they made Orgeron the man because they were worried about losing the recruiting. That's how incompetent Alleva and the admin is. They let him hire Steve fricking E as his OC. Give me a break.

All that said, bring on Aranda. I'd rather this O experiment end now before he bleeds the program dry. I'll take a young hungry coach. I don't know if Aranda has the personality to be a HC but I sure would give him a chance before O.

If there's no opportunity for mediocrity, then it's already guaranteed to be the end of that era. For better or worse, it's also obviously the beginning of another one.

Hopefully O is merciful to the unbelievers when he wins the BCS.

In the long run this looks good as well as O will leave, Aranda will take his place, Corey Raymond will likely be named DC, and Aranda will likely hire a quality OC (maybe Briles).

Got a link that backs up this theory?

It’s not very far fetched. Aranda is already Associate HC and is highly paid.

Two possible outcomes with the Ed O experiment:

Outcome #1) He goes 6-2 in his first year as head coach, 9-4 in his second, slides further down in his third, and gets fired as a mediocre failure

Outcome #2) it's outcome #1 it's already in motion

It is both. The era of a well run athletic department ended a couple years ago. That only manifests itself in the football program when major changes take place (hirings, firings, etc). The new era is in full swing. Every time a major change happens, LSU football seems to take a step backwards, at least in process. I expect mixed results for a time as some vestiges of an elite football program remain, but the process is so bad that it is obvious that as more and more changes take place the program will erode step by step. Worse than the results on the field, is that someone capable of fixing it isn’t likely to join an organization that is so poorly run. It will take house cleaning at the highest levels to attract the type of person that can right the ship.

I was against hiring O but once was done, might as well hope for the best.

I feel that his on the field coaching was an improvement, which it hardly could not have been.

Now, his hiring appears to be at best, hiring the best person that he knows personally, because he doesn't know any better, or at worst, hiring buddies to ride the gravy train he's fooled us into while it lasts.

That leads me to believe that it's either shittyness or mediocrity, with no chance of greatness. Some level of mediocrity is most likely.

7-9 wins per year. It's up to you how to classify it.

Orgeron fans will say each time, he's making progress and just needs one more year. LSU fans will call it mediocre.

He's done. It's just a matter of time now. I'd be surprised if he makes it through this coming season.

Yep. I suppose he might not even make it to spring training , much to the delight of some of the fools who post on here , like you .

I agree there are two possible outcomes but they differ slight from yours. Mine for the program under O are:

Declining mediocrity

Falling off a cliff

Yes.

1. Complete and chaotic failure
2. Mediocrity

The worst outcome would be the sustained mediocrity we saw in the last years of the Miles era, where he did just enough to stay each year. And I could see that happening with O.

And at the end of every single loss to Bama he'll toss out the catchphrase "We Comin"...

Two outcomes are mediocre or tank the program.

We will find out soon enough. If O can last 8 games into next year without being fired.

What amazes me is the number of so called "LSU fans" that would give anything for Coach O to fail.

I have no idea of the outcome... SUCCESS is my choice, even if O continues to be the coach...only idiots would hate LSU's SUCCESS only because of the Coach.

Success will keep him as coach
Failure will get him fired..after year 3 IMO
Mediocrity will get him fired after year 3 or 4

same case as in most coaches
