I think Occidental created the logo, but most schools had a sailor hat logo back in the day, even beyond what you pictured, so it's not a huge deal if others have variations.
Just off the top of my head, Georgia, Florida, Michigan, Cal, North Carolina, Miami, and Kansas State also have similar logos.

Anyone old enough to remember LeTigre shirts? They were a cheaper clone of Lecoste, with a tiger instead of an alligator. Back in the 80's.

It’s a funny story. This one illustrator went around selling logos to schools and just reusing the same drawing.

This is my favorite throwback logo. Coach Jay Johnson has been wearing the 1/4 zip with this logo. Anyone know where I can find that 1/4?
