Do any of you live in a city that charges income tax?

I've never heard of this, but I'm helping one of my subordinates with a pay issue and he lives in Philly. I'm looking at his pay statement and I see PA State income tax -XX.XX and under it I see Philadelphia income tax -XX.XX
I can't even imagine the thievery from that stash.

They voted for it. No sympathy from me.

I think thousands of cities in the US have this actually.
Most of the major ones I think.
Rank City State Highest Local Income Tax Rate
1 Portland Oregon 4.0% combined county/regional taxes
2 New York City New York 3.876%
3 Philadelphia Pennsylvania 3.735%
4 Reading Pennsylvania 3.60%
5 Scranton Pennsylvania 3.40%
6 Baltimore Maryland 3.20%
7 Pittsburgh Pennsylvania 3.00%
8 Cleveland Ohio 2.50%
8 Columbus Ohio 2.50%
8 Toledo Ohio 2.50%
11 Detroit Michigan 2.40%
Pennsylvania seems to love it, which is ironically where we signed the Declaration of Independence which had a lot ot do with unfair taxation

Imagine living in a crime infested shithole, and paying income taxes to it...

Have to assume (pray) that those places don't have a sales tax

Cincinnati pays a 1.8% city tax.
For Joe Burrow, that comes out to almost $1 million per year.

I'm pretty sure I paid a Birmingham income tax when I lived there.

In Portland, 1/4th of the 4%, or 1%, is allocated to homeless shelters and homeless services (phones, etc.). Not kidding.
The other 3% provides free preschool to all 3 and 4 year olds in the county.

New Orleans attempted to do this years ago. However, they only wanted to tax nonresidents who worked in the city. That was clearly unconstitutional.
Marc Morial (the most corrupt piece of pure f*cking FILTH politician in New Orleans' history -- and THAT is saying something) attempted to impose a $100 tax (he called it a "fee") on all property owners. He tried to assure his "cultchural" base that they wouldn't have to pay it if they didn't own a home. About a week before the referendum was put on the ballot, a sh!t-ton of landlords in the city sent their renters a letter saying that if the referendum passed, the landlords would pass on the "fee" to their renters. The referendum failed.

That free living accommodation, free food, and free phones for illegals has to be funded somehow.

I don’t know the state constitution that well, but this is definitely not unconstitutional and almost every city with a professional sports team does this
Edit: wait until yall learn about occupational or gross receipt taxes, yall are really going to hate those

Louisville Metro charges an income tax of about 2.2% for residents and 1.45% for non-residents working in metro.
Most major cities have it I believe.

Denver has an Occupational Privilege Tax. If you earn money in the City you pay $5.75 a month and your employer pays $4.
