Discontinue ALL Refs and use AI

All the refs are inept or maybe on the take or whatever at least lazy for sure.
We don’t need em in 2026 where we have self driving taxis, flying cars and rockets that land back straight up and down. We have AI and we have cameras everywhere.
- more cameras
- sensors in the balls, gloves, shoes, helmets, knee/elbow pads.
- let the AI run each play let the NCAA (if that’s still a thing) or SEC or whatever decide what to call and what not to call (adjust the bias and everyone agree on it).
- allow more reviews and more challenges by another completely different AI model or project with a different platform for oversight.
- review and evaluate the ai model after every game for issues discrepancies from every single college game and learn and fix any errors
- have human zebras on site to to what they already do - review instant replays or video challenges in case it completely screws up. But I have confidence AI is superior to cheating arse lazy refs.
- Refs will push back but their days are over in my opinion. Humans make mistakes AI - done correctly does not.

Sure. AI will help.

While I totally agree with all of this, 2026 is sorta the reason for this. It isn't that refs have gotten worse, or suddenly started fixing every game. its that 4K video quality and super slow motion make refereeing a game look easy. And instead of using third party officials to run replay they rely on game referees with an agenda (of keeping their jobs/remaining relevant) to run the system.
And while Ai (and common sense for that matter) is capable of fixing a LOT of broken systems, it isnt a panacea. We still get spam emails, texts, and calls from spoofed email addresses and phone numbers. It would take Ai programming an afternoon to wipe out the entire telemarking industry of that cancer but it isnt happening in the telemarketing industry...or college football because..
Biased humans/lobbyists would/already have fricked up this concept royally at every step.

I do think we can do a better job of pairing technology with what's been done forever.
For example, sensors in either end of the football that can pickup on when forward progress has stopped. Sync it to the clock and have it spit out the actual location. Something like this could speed the game up, and allow refs to have data to support their decisions in major parts of the game.

They used shite like this kinda in the world cup, it could tell if the ball was deflected or changed trajectory via a chip inside. I think the results weren't exactly perfect, and I'm sure the powers that be COULD just manipulate results, if you subscribe to that theory, but it would at least be worth a try.
I think bball does too or was at least testing it in some capacity, to tell who last touched balls that went out of bounds

They won’t do this.
They want the error in it, because it allows them to influence and rig games.

Could you imagine the holding calls if they used AI

If the SEC were allowed to run AI refs don’t you think they would have AI programmed to cheat LSU worst then the current situation? You need to rethink this OP.

There would be multiple flags on every play

Better yet, replace the players with robots

AI? AI can’t even gets its grammar right half the time.
Christ. You people really do believe it’s actual “AI” and not just the Trivago Search engine with a minor editing tool attached.

Player mistakes and imperfections are part of the game, and part of competition. If a player on me team doesn't execute, then we deserve to lose and that's just sports. But when a neutral 3rd party interjects himself and swings a game with either incompetence or bias, then that's a totally different story and should absolutely be fixed if we have a way to fix it (which we do).
At the very least refs need more consequences for poor performance. It's crazy that multi-millions of dollars are on the line and playoff implications can be wrecked by one obviously wrong call and the ref faces no real repercussions. Wish I had that same shield from consequences for poor performance at my job.

Came to say this. "Holding" is an inherent flaw in the game of football. Its against the rule but also ubiquitous.
