Director of Player Development Job Description (Kevin Faulk)
Posted by hsgeoboy on 1/18/18 at 6:32 pm132
From what I could gather this is what a director of player development does:
According to Mississippi State, the role means they will be an “administrative resource for MSU football student-athletes in all phases of their development. Among his chief responsibilities, he will serve as a liaison with the Athletic Department's life skills and mentor programs as well as a liaison for NFL scouts.” LINK
And according to Sports Day “The job description fluctuates depending on the program, but it typically includes mentorship, perhaps with administrative roles mixed in.” LINK
So asides from these vague descriptions, does anyone know what the day to say responsibilities of Kevin Faulk will be? How much contact and mentorship will he have with players? How much is he allowed to talk to recruits? How much of the job is administrative? What will he actually do? Just asking, because there seems to be a quite a bit of confusion on the specifics of the job. Thank you!

I would be happy for him to just walk around the practice field and the locker room and mingle... Let them boys get used to being around championship winners.
Actually, I was thinking the job at LSU helped to identify talent needs and future recruits because that was what Austin Thomas was doing supposedly.

Personally, I don't really care about the details of the position, as long as we do not land in any hotwater, I'm fine with it.
Kevin Faulk, more than any other individual(including the angry little man from West Virginia), brought LSU football back from the abyss. His decision - and it was somewhat shocking at the time - to stay home made it possible to literally "bring back the magic" - not the actual game (Faulk was relatively ineffective in an early SEC contest of his career - the real stars of that particular game were defenders Rogers, Stansberry and Twillie) - Kevin Faulk would go on to stay 4 years, establish new records for the school for rushing and for the league in all purpose yards (not broken until Tebow of Nazareth, over 10 years later).
Hell, if there was a Heisman equivalent award for all purpose yards, Faulk might have won it twice.
So, having a proven, unquestionable winner like Kevin Faulk on the payroll can only be viewed as a positive in my book.

Nah, that’s the strength coach’s game day responsibility. Gotta have the guy who can make your life miserable to keep everyone in line

Well then you should learn some history. Believe it or not. Dinardo recruited well. Saban wasn't able to win an SEC Title his second year with scrubs. And Kevin Faulk was the catalyst for turning the tide on LA players leaving the state. Obviously all the recruiting services didn't exist back in 1995, but he was widely regarding as one of the biggest recruits nationally. He was the important signee in modern LSU history.

Saban just continued and extended what Faulk and Dinardo started.
