It's not an "experiment". He's a very good pitcher coming off of a serious injury, working his way back. We're going to need Coleman for a championship run. Letting him get some work in pressure situations, and allowing him to work a little longer, will benefit us diwn the road. Hence, the OP's long game question. He's right. I do t have a problem with that decision. The ones who do are very short-sighted. This is bigger than one game.

Did you see Jays game notes? Did you dig into pitching and hitting to see what every hitter does well and what they do bad? Did you see what his notes say on how to to pitch to each batter?

No you didn’t. Nobody did except him and his coaches. So instead of smashing the submit button on things you do not have all the information on, step back and enjoy two of the greatest players to ever wear an LSU uniform.

I swear some of y’all watch 1 game a week and feel the need to give your opinion.

Apparently he doesn’t get much credit for that or for making critical decisions that play out perfectly

The bitches and trolls like him won't be seen again until a Nicholls or another opponent scores a run or two on us or gets an early lead. As usual it's nothing but silence again from the peanut gallery and all those nega-tiger assclowns

No. According to CJJ, he left Coleman in to pitch to Utermark because he fanned him in his previous AB.

I'd rather Coleman get a little more experience than put more wear and tear on some of our other guys on a game that wasn't a must win. I don't understand everyone's obsession with being number 1 in the rankings. We need a top seed for homefield advantage, but the number one overall ranking isn't that important.

Why not do it in a game with real competition? The bullshite games where we've already killed the others teams confidence are irrelevant when it comes to getting good reps in.

Sleight of hand?

No.

Slight of mind.

Yes..I think so to a degree with stretching Coleman beyond "safe win" norms. We ALREADY won the series and he definitely needs to rapidly grow his pitching staff. Now that said...after the homer 2nd inning in the Coleman hook was justified and appreciated. However he still went well beyond his 1st outing last Tuesday ( 3 outs - 2 SO's n a flyout)

Weird response. I wasn't criticizing Jay at all. Just posed a thought and a question for discussion.
And actually I have watched every game this season including all home games from the stands. As I have watched almost every LSU game since 1985 including many away games and several CWS series.
And I have great appreciation for this whole team as well as the coaching staff. This is the best run organization since at least 2001, and maybe some years before that. Jay seems to have really good baseball intuition although he plays less gut feelings than baseball percentages, which I learned was better through watching Skip.
And since this is a FAN FORUM there is not much more than opinion unless you want to regurgitate the game stats that everyone can look up. But rant on Champ(?)!

Yes, likely

But the football fans who watch baseball 2-3 weekend a year won’t agree with you

I'm a 100% all in baseball fan, and I think that move had nothing to do with playing the long game. It was fine to put him in the game, but when it was clear he didn't have it, there was no reason to leave him in. You have midweek games to stretch him out. I think it was just a mistake to leave him in, plain and simple. It's alright to say a coach made a mistake without being a non-baseball fan. Jay says it, himself, that he a left a pitcher in too long, when it happens.

This idea that you have to agree with every decision the coach makes or you're just some idiot, gets really old. If a coach can admit that he makes mistakes, an observer can point it out when they see it.

What you saw was the coach sticking to his plan. The plan was/is to extend the kids pitch count. Here’s a shocker for some of you…. Coleman was coming out after that batter regardless of the result. Sadly if Coleman had struck the guy out, popped him out or forced a double play half of you would be mad that Jay took him out!
At any rate, if you’ve paid attention all year you’d know Jay is working with pitch counts in these situations all year. Coleman threw one inning previously and worked through the inning within his pitch count. Sunday, there wasn’t as smooth but he was extended for the sake of growth and sticking to a plan. Like I said, that guy would have been the last batter regardless of outcome for Coleman …. Because of his pitch count.

Then again I don’t think in-game management is a strength of his

So, you didn't watch a single game last year?

Also pinch hitting Travenski was a terrible move as well.
