Pass was on the money but Hilton's right hand was raked at the point of catch. I went back to look at it on the replay on WatchEspn and the DB hit right hand/arm simutaneous to the ball arriving.

Correct, I watched the replay several times. The DB hit 17’s arms and body as the ball hit his hands and knocked it loose. Very tough ball to catch and great play by Ole Miss.
Also, 17 was being helped off the field by a teammate and trainer after the game as he was hit by multiple players while in the air. He made a valiant effort to catch the ball.

Could have been caught, yes...should have been caught I can't say that.

You often hear receivers say if you get two hands on the ball you should catch it. My brother was a receiver in HS and that was always his motto.

That's part jock speak part truth and the reality is somewhere in the middle.

The defense as we all know is the issue, the early narrative that JD was the issue had been proven so wrong as to be laughable at this point.

But to the point of the thread it could have been caught. had he it would not have been a miracle. That he did not was not IMHO egregious.

, it IS the reason we lost,

Your user name is an apt description. Your offense puts up 40+ you should win. The ABSOLUTE reason we lost is giving up over 700 yards of offense. Any criticism of the offense is off base.

This is stupid and simplistic.
The defense was awful and the offense was not.
But the offense was not perfect.
And if the WR makes that catch, his failure to do so is the reason we lost.
As I said, others claim it hit both hands and he should have caught it.
There are other criticisms of the offense, too, which can be more easily enumerated than those by the defense.
Wanna hear them?
hmmm?

Poor coaching, inexperienced players and horrible play calling at critical times lost that game… not one hail marry pass… it should have been caught it though…..

He was high-pointing and the ball barely hit his fingertips (was thrown high) Would've been a miracle catch IMO...

Wow, Lacy was going to be wide-arse open in another second, which JD had.

Now I know that’s not who you want to be throwing to there but he was coming across uncovered.

Well, blame the O-Line for allowing pressure from 3 guys

Yes, not why they lost, but that ball could’ve 100% been caught

true, probably had 20 plays in the game that if they were made we would have won the game. But, regardless we lost because we don't have a defense that can get a stop when we need it!!!!!!!!!

The two false starts were so inexcusable - imagine 2 plays from the 16

This was huge. Reduce that throw by 10 yards and the dbs don’t have time to close on the pass.

There is no should have been caught on that play. Just as the ball is hitting his hands he has a defenders arm break it up. That would have been very difficult for any receiver ti come down with. Possible-yes, but not a catch he should be blamed for not catching. He should have caught the bomb early in the game.

Yep...this is what I saw on the replay they showed from behind Daniels. Hilton was open when Jayden saw him, but by the time the ball got there, he was bracketed by two Ole Miss players and at least one of them bumped his arm just as the ball got there.

Of course, if we hadn't gotten those two procedure penalties, the pass would have had to travel about 10 yards less and would have gotten there a little quicker. Would Hilton have had a better chance to catch it before the defenders could get to him? Perhaps....
