Did JJ really want to win that game?

He said so, but imo he thought it was more important to get a last look at a lot of players and lineup changes. If he puts Guidry in instead of Sutton, we are highly likely to win that last game.

hindsight will be 20/20. He may be doing just he needed to do. I hope so. If we had been 5-4 or 6-3 the last 3 series, i would be feeling better about not taking the surest path to victory in that last game it's that much losing at the end of the season that worries me. STill, no one would argue that the extra rest won't do us good. Well, he's making the big bucks to make those decisions. Geaux Tigers!

It wasn't win at all costs else Ty would've pitched 1 or 2 more innings.

Have been feeling this way myself. Feel like he was not in it to win it. If they won then so be it but he is not unhappy they lost.
Keep the bell curve of emotion low for now. Let the team try to peak again in the ncaas. Also wondered if he was being Wiley like a fox but I don’t think that. Mainly he just made odd line up positions did not want those players to lose but saw what he had. Let’s hope.

Putting in Dutton was a head scratcher and cost us the game. If he puts Guidry in, we're in the semi's. I hope he tightens up because he's made some idiotic pitching and fielding moves the past 12 games that have cost us.

Johnson continues to out coach himself. I don’t think LSU will ever win a national championship under his leadership and next season is really going to tell the story. I don’t think Johnson is any better than PM. I don’t think PM was that good. I think LSU fans are in for a long ride. This roller coaster is going to get worse before it gets better.

The man has already taken a team to the national championship series but he has no shot of doing that here at a school with more resources. I swear some posters on this board are too dumb for words.

Anyone who doesn’t have their head jammed up their arse can see that he was consistently testing guys in high leverage situations throughout the last 3 SEC weekends after he had a national seed locked up. Knowing who he can trust to make a run at a national championship is obviously 100x more important to him than making a deep run in the SEC tournament so he can brag about it all offseason like Mainieri would after he got skullfricked by Stony Brook in the supers.

Totally different coaching philosophy than we’ve seen recently and his thought process is obvious. We had several key injuries in the pen and he had a short amount of time to test guys who needed to fill the gaps. Too bad this board is filled with fricking idiots who want to write the season off before the regional because Jay didn’t burn all of his pitchers out and throw our starters 100+ pitches every game to win the oh-so-prestigious regular season SEC championship.

The man made it to the CWS with ARIZONA twice and played for the whole thing once

But you dont think he can duplicate that at LSU? A school with infinitely more resources and support for the program than Arizona?

Yea because PM was lighting it up. Jay has already brought in a #1 recruiting class and a #1 transfer class in only 2 years. He had a top 8 seed locked up before the regular season ended.

I dont see how you can say that with a straight face....

I want to believe, but you have no way of knowing this to be true until this coming weekend. I hope you’re right.

You may be right but I doubt it. We are just not playing as well as we did earlier in the season. Us losing those two series and getting bounced by the Aggies is gonna cost us anywhere from a 3 seed to a 6 seed. That means you are most likely going to bring in a much harder team for the Supers. That’s my only gripe about the philosophy of we already have a national seed locked up it doesn’t matter crowd. Making a semifinal in the tournament would have made a much easier road in the playoff. I believe I would trade that for a couple of days rest for 19-20 year old athletes.

Dumb post of the day winner. The guy won over 1500 games, a title, and many other accolades. His time was done but he was a great coach when he was on top of his game.

JJ would much rather have his team playing the way they were back in March and beginning of April. He’s got big problems. The team peaked way too early and is now holding on. I’m sure the purple/gold glasses wearing folks will try to figure out a way to justify that the team is fine….This team, although, easily the most talented in the country, simply has not been able to figure out how to play consistent ball. I hope they find a way to get it turned around.

I am giving him the benefit of the doubt that his coaching decisions have been made with an eye on postseason rather than playing to win each individual game. If he’s still making similar choices in the postseason, then I am going to start doubting his fitness as coach.

Anyone who actually watched LSU play all season knew without a shadow of a doubt that Sam Dutton could not be relied upon in mid week games against in-state schools, with an 8 run lead, much less an SEC opponent in a one run elimination game in the SEC Tournament.

Where do you Baseball Cult morons come from? So now it wasn't just not caring about the SEC Tournament since the start of May JJ didn't care about winning the regular season title so he could "experiment?"

We know where your head is. One of the dumbest takes I've ever seen here.

The insertion of Dutton answered that question.
