He is entering his name into the transfer portal.

Don’t really care what PFF thinks. I live in Houston, and while not a huge Texans fan, watch most of the games by default. He covers well in the games that I’ve watched, and he’s also tackled very well in the open field. He’s not perfect but every Texans fan I’ve talked to has been impressed/fine with drafting him where they did.

Can't be doing that bad:
quote:
Texans cornerbacks coach, Dino Vasso, lauded his rookie corner for his play, attitude, and leadership.
The Houston Texans selected Derek Stingley Jr. with the third overall pick, expecting him to make an immediate impact. His position coach, Dino Vasso, praised the rookie for making that impact on and off the field.
Vasso said he likes what he’s seen from Stingley Jr. thus far:
“Extremely impressed with Sting (Derek Stingley Jr.). Most impressed by his demeanor on gameday, his ability to put plays behind him, be it good or bad. He’s a guy that deals with success and adversity extremely well. That goes to show with his stoic personality, just doesn’t get too high or too low. That’s really how you judge someone’s character, how they are in the highs and lows. He’s showed that over the first couple of weeks.”

I've watched just about every Texans snap this season and can tell you Stingley is the best pure corner they have and when they go man, he usually draws WR1. They are also starting another rookie DB, Jalen Petrie, who has been outstanding, which has overshadowed Stingley somewhat. The Texans have numerous problems, but DB is not one of them.

Opting in is much harder than opting out

Back off guys. He hasn't played since high school and is rusty.
i kid, i kid. He'll be fine.

Texans fan, chiming in.
Stingley has shown tremendous promise through three games. While there have been plays made on him, he's consistently in position to make plays of his own and has done so.
I apologize if this disappoints you, or any other "LSU fans" who are holding a grudge of some kind.

Is it him trying to adjust to NFL play and a slow start…or potential long term issues here with his play? Drafted at 3 overall comes with lofty expectations.
Do we take the word of a guy who loves to shite on LSU players or you got a link?

Stingley will bust....

This has been brought up with players that pretend to still want to play, but half arse it or constantly have "nagging injuries". This is why I have no problem with Chase leaving before the season started, rather than play at a level less than 100%.
I believe when players play with the fear of getting hurt, they lose something that they might not be able to get back. They are used to playing 100% and when they play at a level less than that, it seems to stick with them. You can look at allot of these players and they don't play anywhere near their expectations, where the players highly ranked players that opt out or play hard throughout their career, they are better NFL players

Those rankings are silly.
They may as well be in alphabetical order

Have you watched the bears offense??

He could end up as a bust, but I don't think so. IMO, this is because he's played in a total of 10 of the available 23 games LSU had over the past 2 years. If he was a 4th round pick, this wouldn't be alarming, and he probably wouldn't even be starting.
Dude hasn't seen enough at the college level to rely on knowledge for the NFL and being overly athletic can also be a detriment when you're a young player at corner relying on your speed to make up for your mistakes.

lol...what were you going for here?

Lol…maybe pointing out the fact that he has played 3 NFL games & we should compare his performance to other rookies instead of 80 veteran NFL players.
You expect him to immediately be better than an NFL vet like Patrick Peterson who has been doing this for 10 years?

Stingley was always overrated by Tiger fans. He was a mid first round guy, as I said last year. Maybe he’ll eventually be a great NFL corner, but he never showed that in college. When matched against the best college receivers he gave up a lot - against Bama and Florida. I’ll say this for him, if it’s a jump ball it’s his.

Now, he's going to have to learn how to play corner at the highest level with technique.
You’re getting downvoted, but you are correct. And you can go back to my 2019 posts about Stingley, in which I discuss his poor technique. I haven’t watched him in the pros, but in college, Stingley never trusted his backpedal, and he would turn to run before the receiver committed. He was easily turned by WRs who exploited this.

P. Peterson, 54th
What was Peterson ranked through his first 3 games as a rookie?
Genuinely asking if anyone knows where to find that, or if they even have similar PFF stats that far back.
Memory can be a funny thing, but It seems to me like he was a fair bit better than that early in his nfl career.
