Paxton Kling was a draft eligible sophomore. Pretty much every SEC team has several of them every year. They don’t all leave after 2 years, despite what the “He gone” crowd thinks.

Correct. They all don't leave. But Curiel is not in the same mood as many of them. We were lucky to get this kid here at all. If he keeps close to this production up he will most likely be drafted too high to pass up. He's only going to add to the power tool.

Just like Bear, huh? Those draft eligible sophomores all leave after 2, every single time.

4-5 tool OF player vs a dime a dozen "high power, high K, non premium position" guy.

Jones has done well developing but comparing the two is, quite literally, retarded.

If everything goes as planned, he is definitely gone after year two.

Wish Konnor Griffin would've had the same mindset as Curiel. Imagine if both of them showed up to campus.

They are different types of prospects, but Jones has a loud tool & Curiel just has solid tools across the board.

He’s very advanced for a college freshman but he also will turn 20 in-season. He’s not some unicorn of a prospect. He’s older for his class, still not developed physically (red flag for a soon to be 20yr old), and has no standout tool.

The same things that turned off mlb clubs from drafting him high out of high school are still present. He will need to get bigger & develop power to truly be a slam dunk threat after two seasons.

How does he compare with Crews when Crees was a freshman? That’s the gold standard.

He doesn’t look as strong in my opinion, but I may be remembering Crews as a Junior.

He isn’t, even though he is playing his freshman year basically a year older than Crews did.

What’s “retarded” is for people to assume 100% of talented draft eligible sophomores are going to leave after two years when the reality is a significant majority don’t.

For those who follow the MLB draft closer than myself, is this true?
He is a remarkable college player. But I have to think his small frame and lack of power will hurt him in the draft. Those instincts and ability to do all the small things well (high IQ baserunning, bunting, etc) help in college but don't really seem like something that gets you drafted.

He’s not close to crews. He’s more like Daniel Cabrera or Jake fraley. His feel for the game outweighs his physical tools. Crews was already a monster, physically. He had very loud tools from day 1

Daniel Cabrera

Just never felt like we could get everything out of him during his time here. Covid certainly didn't help his promising start to his junior year

Right now, the MLB guy I would compare his build/game to, is Evan Carter of the Texas Rangers. There will be room for Curiel on an MLB roster when his time comes.

I don’t know what the numbers are, but with NIL and the dollars put into facilities to train players, I think the numbers will rise.

And his power was basically the only question in his game. Kling and Jones were not great hitters and needed to learn how to hit. That’s a much different process.

The crazy part of this team is that they are good enough to win it all THIS year but the majority of our best players are young (Fr or SO) so we should be even better NEXT year.
