How did you get that from this thread?

I was all on board for Herman. I thought O was a cop out and a mistake. But I truly want to see Ed be successful. I’m not going to root against my alma mater.

But Joe Alleva is a clown. There’s no changing that.

The board wanted Jimbo, but Les Miles' pr campaign stopped that the year before. 75% of the board wanted Herman but most of those wouldn't have broken the bank for him. Plus there was talk that he wanted to bring in a new DC. Some like me wanted Orgeron over Herman and are happy how things have turned out.

As the article shows, Orgeron was clearly the choice once Herman decided to jerk us around.

I guess you are talking about Mike Gundy and Kyle Whittingham. Quality coaches but nobody's idea of a homerun hire. Both have had multiple losing seasons and they have one combined Power 5 conference title between them.

We’ve had three coaches this century. I’ll patiently wait for you to tell me how many P5 conference titles they had combined before coming to LSU, and also how many combined losing seasons they’ve had at LSU.

With people like you in our fan base we absolutely deserve a leader like Joe Alleva.

Excellent read for those interested.

Obviously Herman’s agent was trying to work us into a bidding war with Texas.

You don't say? That's what agents do.

Logical, rational, even-keeled, competent athletic directors roll with it instead of flying off the handle and showing their arse. That whole article pretty much sums up why Joe Alleva is no longer an athletic director.

Orgeron is doing very well right now but that “search” was a travesty.

Jury is still out. LSU lost its two most important games of Orgeron's interim tenure in 2016, lost four games in 2017 and three last year.

I know everyone has us winning it all after putting up 55 points on Georgia Southern, but let's finish above third place (lost to A&M on the tiebraker) in the SEC West before we say Orgeron is doing well or that he was a better hire than Herman.

The Orgeron camp had realized earlier that it was No. 2. “Within one minute of the interview with Joe, I knew we were second,” Orgeron says. “I told Derek and Austin to leave the room. I looked at Joe and said, ‘Joe, you know I’m the right man for the job at LSU. You know in your belly, I’m the right man for the job. I look forward to being the head coach of the LSU Tigers.’ And I walked out.”

I wouldn't have minded Whittingham. He's been solid at Utah.

Alleva wanted Zero the whole time and let a train wreck happen to justify his pick. We should have locked down Herman well before Thanksgiving. He earned the cred for that. Alleva was looking for any and every excuse to hire Zero. We didn't have to hire a coach the day after Herman fell through.

I hope we beat the crap out of Texas and I hope I am wrong about Zero but Herman was the best and most logical choice in 2016. We could have offered and locked him down after the Fl debacle.

Herman and Aranda go way back. He actually wanted Aranda at Texas with him.

I agree with you. Which is why I said it was obvious that’s what Herman’s agent was doing. I agreed with another poster that it was shitty search, and Alleva went about it in a shitty way. I’m not sure what point you are trying to prove.

And the scoreboard will show you why in about 5 days. Just sit back and let it happen, buddy. Make sure you make your way back when here when it’s over with, though.

I upvoted but frick that article. It’s 3 years later. Time to move on. That coaching search will be mentioned numerous times during the game as well. Likely a pre game segment dedicated to it. That’s not fair to O at this point, and Herman can STTDB.

WTH? You may have your opinion, but there is no reason for the ad hominem attacks. Neither coach has made themselves out to be a miss since we hired O, regardless of how it turns out long term.

The AD's job is to get a deal done. Getting emotional and saying F off when you get played isn't commendable, it's an embarrassment.

Not so fast. Whittingham and Gundy have 24 total Power 5 coaching seasons between them in mediocre conferences and one single conference title. Both are good coaches who have maintained moderate success at programs established by others. Anonymous internet snark does not make you smarter, pal.
